Leading the way is the Marine Rifle Company (above) which is themed towards desert conflicts. Inside the set you get...
- 1x Formation Command M16 Rifle Team

- 6x M47 Dragon Missile Teams
- 4x M60 GPMG Teams
- 4x SMAW Teams
- 2x M224 60mm Mortar Teams

...you also get yourself an A5 Rule Book, the American Start Here Booklet, Decal Sheets and also the bonus Desert Storm-themed Unit Cards, Tokens and Objectives. So, if you're looking to do some fighting in the desert and take your scenarios in a different direction, you've got some good options here. I like that the conflict isn't just reserved for Eastern Europe and America during the invasion.
Expand Your American & Soviet Armies
As well as the new Starter Force, there are also some separate plastic kits available from Battlefront Miniatures. The Americans get access to the Rifle Platoon.

You can also get the Mech Platoon.

This set comes with some additional teams for you to combine with vehicles as you push forward. You get the M16 Rifle Team, four M249 SAW Teams and four M47 Dragon Missile Teams. Use these to bolt on some extra troops to your army and stick it to those Russian invaders.
The same big bunch of infantry releases are coming out for the Soviets as well with the Motor Rifle Company leading the way.
Soviet Motor Rifle Company // World War III: Team Yankee
This set comes with a hefty bunch of troops that will be able to take down a myriad of threats. They have a Formation Command AK-74 Team alongside AK-74 Assault Rifle Teams, RPG-7 Anti-tank Teams, PKM LMG Teams, SA-14 Gremlin AA Missile Team, AT-4 Spigot Missile Teams.
You can also get yourself the Motor Rifle Platoon.

This set comes with AK-74 Assault Rifle Teams, RPG-7 Anti-tank Teams, SA-14 Gremlin AA Missile Teams, AGS-17 Grenade Launcher Teams and the AT-4 Spigot Missile Teams. These are the same as the set above but in smaller numbers so you can bolt these onto transport options much like with the Americans.
All of these releases in plastic help to bulk out your existing World War III: Team Yankee armies and could perhaps give those who already have access to armour, the option to just get the infantry separately.
Are you going to be getting your hands on these sets?

Yo Dog, we heard you like tonks on your tonks so we put some tonks in your tonks.
TONKS!!!
Nice to see
For me the big “hope” is that they redo the infantry for the Oil Wars period (Iran and Iraq), as it’s basically the same uniform and equipment.
AND it makes a good theatre to play (as again there’s no uber tanks or equipment, just keep Israel out of the mix as Merkava are just too good when the other side has T-64s and T-55s).
Just make the Israelis take earlier kit, like Centurions and American M-series tanks.
Overall, as @sundancer said, TONKS for the TONKS. The infantry look like they’ve been out chasing parked cars, as usual for FoW. But who needs infantry when you have TONKS for miles and miles and miles …
Well it was a conflict that lasted for EIGHT years, each nation had similar tech levels of kit. HOWEVER one rather telling battle was the Battle of Dezful (Battle of the Bridges) where Iraq lost 45 T-62 and T-55 tanks while the Iranians lost between 100-200 Chieftains and M-60 tanks (British Engineers surveying the battle afterwards found that the T-62s were able to penetrate the Chieftains armour frontally and the whole thing birthed the invention of the Stillbrew Armour upgrade packages for the Chieftains which was an early version of the Chobham armour. All rather embarrassing for British arms manufactures… Read more »
Looking at the marine company, I would use the shut up and take my money meme if I had money
I would give that a “Wolf of Wall Street” Leo throwing money meme response, as a humorous riposte!
Just noticed, it’s rather telling how much research Battlefront do at times. After all the “Patton” tank wasn’t the M-60, in fact it was the earlier M-48 tank 😀
It was never officially called a Patton but was developed from the M48 Patton (in essence an evolution not a whole new design) and was known as a Patton colloquially. The US Army didn’t even consider it a new tank when ordered, it was a “product improvement” of the M48. I don’t think Battlefront is in the wrong to call it a Patton. The only other nickname I’ve heard the was used with any regularity was the “War Pig” which honestly is a better name.
Literally, there are US Army museums that call it “M60 Patton”.
I`m guessing the only two rulesets for this period is TY and Battlegroup Northag ?… I tried a few times to enjoy TY battle reports but watching tanks move in a block is something my eyes cannot enjoy… any other rules sets outthere or coming out ?
Yes: try the Cold War Commander set. I was a play tester of the WW2 and early CWC rules, and they do play well. They have evolved quite a bit since I started using them. They actually started as a Warmaster based concept!
