Empress Preview Early Work On 1980s British Soldiers
July 6, 2020 by brennon
Empress Miniatures has been previewing some of the early work going into their new range of 1980s British Soldiers. There were a few very work-in-progress sculpts being shown off on social media recently but they might give you some inspiration!

The set of soldiers are going to be focused on the conflicts of the period so their arms and equipment will reflect that throughout the range. As well as these standard infantry options, the team from Empress have said that they are going to be working on vehicles to match them too.

As well as the British options which are going to be added into the mix you will also be able to check out a bunch of Soviet Paratroopers for this period and also a whole bunch of Argentinian troops as well. So, if you're looking to play out both a Cold War Gone Hot but also a real conflict then this might be worth checking out.

This seems like a nice route to go down if you're looking to play this period beyond the bounds of 15mm. A lot of companies have worked in that scale recently as well as 10mm so it's good to see some options in 28mm for more squad-based adventures on the tabletop. Crack out a good set of rules and this could be fun.
Are you going to be taking a look at these miniatures once they've been tweaked?

Good for Falklands conflict as well.
I was looking at a game called Winter of 79 recently. For any of you who haven’t run across it you’ll find a skirmish based game set during an alternative Winter of Discontent during which the UK fractures and a civil war breaks out dragging in multiple factions. These minis could possibly provide a few additions to a very interesting game as well as then being used for other rule sets, they are certainly great looking sculpts.
Thanks for the reminder about that. It’s something I’d meant to look at and had completely forgot.
Your welcome. There’s a article about the game set up and rules in the Feb issue of wargames illustrated if that helps by Mark Boam. I was born in the Rhondda Valley of South Wales so the miners strike and the winter of discontent were a big deal for my immediate family so you can imagine I’m interested in the Free Taff Army. Glad such a thing never happened but it looks like a great little game ?
Those look perfect for an Attack on Jadotsville scenario I had in mind, albeit they were UN Irish and would need berets
