Empress Miniatures & Paul Hicks Working On WWII British Airborne!
September 15, 2022 by brennon
Empress Miniatures are going to be working with Paul Hicks on a new set of World War II miniatures for use alongside your British. The XXX Corps of the British Airborne are going to be heading into the action soon over on Kickstarter.
XXX Corps - British Airborne // Empress Miniatures
Paul Hicks said in his announcement how he was happy to be working on the British Airborne once again and it will be great to bring characters from the XXX Corps to life on the tabletop. More news and such will follow on that, but it's neat to see more of Hicks' detailed sculpts getting added to the World War II range.
XXX Corps - British Airborne // Empress Miniatures
The XXX Corps was formed in the Western Desert in 1941 and would have been fighting extensively during the North Africa campaign. They also fought in the Second Battle Of El Alamein and in the Tunisia Campaign. They also formed part of the left flank during the Allied invasion of Sicily.
This was a prolific Corps that found itself embroiled in action through much of the war in Africa and Europe. They would again find themselves fighting during the invasion of Normandy and took part in Operation Market Garden. More fighting happened later in the way in the Netherlands and then finally during Operation Veritable in Germany.
So, they were no shrinking violets! You could use them across a range of different battlefields and maybe even tell their story from the desert through to the final moments of the war in Germany.
Are you liking these early looks at the miniatures from Hicks and Empress?

Now this IS exciting news, not so sure on the uniform differences between these and that later day Arnhem period British Airborne (if any) but Hick’s sculpts are always characterful and well posed 🙂
HOWEVER, just noticed that two of the figures are holding the Sten guns “Hollywood” style (it may look good, but the troops were trained to never hold/use a Sten gun while holding onto the magazine) 🙁
Noice
Fab figures they need a commander with a brolly.?
As good as I’ve come to expect from Empress ?
