Community Spotlight: Stargrave Crews, Prussians & Stalingrad Battling
May 5, 2021 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Core Space/Stargrave Crew by Demonsub
We start with demonsub who has been tinkering around with some miniatures to represent their Stargrave crew on the tabletop. The miniatures here have come from the Battle Systems Core Space range and they seem like they will work really well for this upcoming Sci-Fi skirmish wargame.
Each of the characters here have been painted up really nicely and I love how different they all feel. Each of the characters comes together as an individual and yet feels like they could also be part of a whole. It is really pushing home that Firefly vibe for me and you could really see this crew as some disaprate band of ruffians who have come together to focus in on fortune and glory.
demonsub has also named all of the characters here and dropped in details as to what role they fill within the crew.
I really liked this addition to the project and I equally liked that it also gave us a better look at the characters and the paint job by demonsub. I am really liking Hobb as one of the Runners in the crew and Tirgarde as the First Mate. I am crossing my fingers that demonsub's crew is able to survive their encounters and don't die off too soon!
This crew works really well for Stargrave as planned but demonsub is also going back to paint up The Purge from the set too. This means they can soon play both of these excellent Sci-Fi tabletop games.
Prussian Landwehr Cavalry by jamescutts
jamescutts then joins us for a jaunt back through history. They are working on a new Prussian army for use during the Napoleonic War and campaigns from 1813 onwards. The first set of miniatures painted up were the Prussian Landwehr Cavalry.
Apparently the miniatures were a pain in the ass to assemble but a joy to paint. I really like how the paint job has come together and it reminds me a lot of the way you see display figures painted for those big dioramas you get in museums. They have been designed to work as the regiments present in the Province of Kurmark/Neumark.
jamescutts has already said that if you're going to button count then the blues and reds here aren't going to be entirely accurate but I'm very much with them, who cares! The miniatures look great and considering how rough it is to get through all the colours on a Napoleonic soldier, I tip my cap.
The basing is yet to be decided upon but I quite liked the look of the churned up mud on the base. I would assume that we're going to be getting a field design for these to match the rural scope of Europe but I'd also be happy to see a brutal battlefield that has been fought over for hours. I am also eager to see what's next for this larger army!
Stalingrad Battle Project by intelligentmistertoad
The final project that we're looking at for this week is from intelligentmistertoad as we peer at a Spring Cleaning Challenge project which is going to set up a full Stalingrad battlefield for use in Bolt Action.
As it stands, the Soviets are looking pretty prepped for the big Stalingrad battle but as well as that, a German army is also getting finished to go up against the Soviets. Here you can see some of the work by intelligentmistertoad on said troops. I really like the simple but effective approach to painting these models and I think the ruined wrecked basing also suits nicely.
As well as showing off some of the miniatures, intelligentmistertoad has also done a great job on some of the terrain that is going to be littering the streets of the ruined city.
Again, a simple but effective looking scheme for this terrain which really suits the bombed out and blasted look of the city. I really like the addition of streaks of grime here and there and the specks of white work to reinforce that feel of dust that has settled after large explosions.
There is plenty more to dive into with this project too so make sure to go and check it out on the link above!
