Question. Why run your tanks in large, unwieldy units? Unlike FoW there are no quality of quantity rules benefitting large units. Wouldn’t it be better to run many smaller units and present the enemy with multiple threats from different vectors?
Seems like then some units could move and shoot, while others dash for better positions.
Smaller platoons are more likely to succumb to morale. A unit stays in “good spriits” if it has at least two tanks that aren’t bailed out. When you hit that point you have to take a Unit Morale test. Fail that and goodbye unit. Big Soviet “platoons” (really company) keeps that unit in the fight. That follows Soviet doctrine.
I prefer rather 3 platoons of 5 than 2 platoons of 7. Like @foehammer888 said they are easier to manouver and I open up an aditional angle of attack. One Company through the middle and the other two on the flanks. If one get stuck it could be supported by another.
Because the Soviets outnumber the enemy every time one should utilize it and give the opponent more targets to shoot at. He can’t shoot all of them at once.
Forgot to mention that you get one more T-72 for only 2 points more. Quite a big deal 😉
I prefer a unit of 6 and a unit of 8. With recon, hinds and frogfoots.
