Let’s Play: Chain of Command – Collective Farm 452
December 21, 2017 by dignity
Rich from Too Fat Lardies is back for another game of Chain of Command.
It is Autumn of 1942 and Rich's German army are marching east towards the Volga, but first they must push back Justin's Russian forces encountered at Collective Farm 452.
Unlike the rural stone buildings of Normandy these meagre farm buildings offer only light cover for the encamped Russian troops.
This playthrough shows off some of the differences in the Russian army's tactics, the benefits of moving tactically, and defending the motherland.
Would you have played it differently?

Just started my Christmas Holidays, got a nice bottle of Madeira and now I find a CoC video on Beasts. Life just doesn’t get any better than this
Another great Let’s play of CoC. And in comparison to the first one here on beasts of war it really showed what Richard meant when saying right at the beginning that no two games are the same, even if played on the exact same table. It all comes downs to where the Jump off points are at the end of the patrol phase. With Let’s play one being an exchange of fire from static positions for 90% of the time, this scenario was blazing right away. Great game and fun to watch.
i’m sorry to say.. but i think for a Lets Play, Too Fat Lardies needs another speeker for promoting their games.
I do not mean to hurt people, but everyone has their qualities. After a minute I have completely lost the feeling and story behind a game that is probably very well put together
I always find Richard an extremely engaging fellow who adds to my enjoyment of these reports, but each to their own.
Another fantastic game. I would have made use of the senior leader’s command initiatives to activate other squads within his command range to move or fire. Let the junior leaders remove their shock. The boss can get lots of things to happen. Hope to see more of these. Nice one Guys. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Great Let’s play. Gave a good feel to the game.
Now, more games to take up my non existent free time. bother
where did the terrain come from?
A really enjoyable Let’s Play. Richard is entertaining as usual, makes me crack up in every video.
fantastic video, Richard and Justin are just great together! What I’d love to see would be these two, John, Oriskany and Time Lord Dave to seat Warren down and discuss WW2 gaming, maybe as a lecture series even. Some truly fantastic articles and lets plays on BoW, but for people with different learning styles, the format of a group discussion could make for some interesting coverage. Could even do a live chat! Oriskany’s knowledge and understanding of the multiple levels of combat and being able to bring real experience, Richard’s perspective as a renowned rules writer, John as a modeller,… Read more »
I’d be up for a such a project. And well played, @dignity! Slava Rodinu! (Glory to the Motherland!)
I’d love to see this
Great game lads, even if Justin can’t count when it comes to numbers of dice he should roll! :D. I really like this ruleset and I think when I get around to getting some 28mm ww2 minis in the future I will have to give it a go.
another great game with a great looking board. It would be awesome if you listed things like what miniature ranges, buildings and a force roster in the descriptions.
we use 15mm at our games club, battle front, peter pig, plastic soldier etc.as for scenery ground force do a good range of 15mm ww2 buildings.the force rosters are in the rulebook and there are also force rosters on the TooFatLardies forum.
Really love this game… Currently playing the ‘into the citadel’ campaign.. Great stuff…
Now that was great fun – thanks for sharing the game with us. Justin might have to start “counting” his dice a bit better and I felt Richard was very understanding. As always it was Richard’s ability to link the dice and movement with some narrative that made this shine.
Another very entertaining game! I am really liking these rules.
These CoC plays are the best you have ever done, Richards narration throughout is excellent it telling you the tactics and rules without taking up time.
Great video. New Year resolution, must get CoC rule book!
Great vid as usual.
I don’t really understand why Richard din’t do more with his Stug? Is it becasue he couldn’t because something had happened to it? Or he just chose not to activate it?
I don’t have the rules so feedback is welcomed
Rolling five command dice there are limitations. Richard had to make choices to advance the infantry or the tank. He needed troops forward to protect the tank. Once the Russians started to put pressure on Richard’s troops, He had to spend the valuable command resources on them and hold the tank back. It’s those kind of limited commands that make these rules so good 😉
First game of CoC I’v ever seen. Really enjoyed it. But I was wondering for what the 5s are the entire game. Guess I have to watch more games then 😀
