Empress Miniatures Brings Forth Future Russian Armour
April 26, 2018 by stvitusdancern
Empress Miniatures has released their version of the future Main Battle Tank (MBT) for the Russians the T-14 Armata.
It is reported that this tank will begin active service in 2020 with the 2nd Guards Motor Rifle Brigade. She looks to be a formidable weapons platform with a 125mm main gun.
We can only imagine that she will be equipped with the latest in anti-tank and anti-personnel weapons and computer and laser targeting systems. I could see me using this model in a Spectre Operations scenario where a team of Tier 1 Operators have to try and get intelligence on the tank during field trials or even better try and capture one.
Could be very interesting. It looks to be a really nice model and is in 1/50 scale.
What do you think of this modern battlefield juggernaut?

Ooh nice.
Its a miniature wargamers product : D Love it.
Wow. Had no idea Empress produced so many modern vehicles. Nice kits too.
Looks like the Russians haven’t learned their lesson in vehicle design. Two man turret and autoloader, cramped crew compartment. More shot traps than previous designs. I would imagine they will plaster it with reactive armour post production, and of course they’ll make a million of them.
It has not a two man turret. Actually it’s a no man turret with an autoloading system. Commander, Gunner and Driver are sitting side by side in the tanks front hull.
It’s features are quite more complex than simple reactive armor. It is able to destroy incomming missiles and bullets before they reach the actual hull.
Believe it… they have learned a lot.
Dude, they’ve been touting its features for ages. How are you this misinformed about it.
@dmgdmind I was an intelligence operator for 26 years throughout the Cold War, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. I was quite informed until my release in 2008, and thereafter didn’t care. So you’ll forgive me for being ‘misinformed’ on Russian crap, but I’ve seen enough of it to last me five lifetimes, and am only interested in this for an unrelated near future Traveller adventure. Of course I won’t be as informed as an armchair strategist fapping away to disinformation releases on the net. I also know about the missile defense features. They had them back in the day. Hopefully they work… Read more »
You intelligence operators are just bullshitters, I’d rather believe a smelly arsed wargamer any day ; )
Thanks @raglan 😉
“Of course I won’t be as informed as an armchair strategist fapping away to disinformation releases on the net. ”
A bit harsh there. Anyway, that aside. It’s an interesting design and is more of a break away from the previous generations of tank. It looks far more like a modern MBT than what has come before.
But yes, most likely an APFSDS will go through it. As, so far as we know, nothing has really stopped one consistently.
Then why did you immediately jump in making comments criticizing its design that you neither knew nor cared nothing about? You hardly have to be an ‘armchair strategist’ to have been aware of it, just having a passing interest in modern military goings on was enough to know the automated turret, crew positions, and automated defense claims. “Lauded in the west for its performance” lol? Is that why we had 50+ years of being told that russian equipment was sad garbage that they could only make effective en-masse and when we finally got our hands on up to date soviet… Read more »
As I said, I don’t have a passing interest in the kit.
As for the modernized T-72’s, more disinformation. Thanks for playing.
BTW, ERA is only effective against HEAT rounds, not APFSDS.
The model looks really good, but the scale seems to be a bit odd. Is there a game system using this 1/50 scale?
It ought to fit with most minis given they’re usually a bit chunkier than 1:56. Think of it as heroic proportions for tanks 🙂
Historically, Soviet tanks are smaller, with the aim of presenting a smaller target. I haven’t looked up the specs for this, but I’m guessing it will come in around 40 – 45 tons, much less than its larger western equivalent.
Ooops. Wrong. 57 tons apparently.
Whoops, I’ve just had an orgasm.
Love the tank, well done Empress!!
Very nice looking model. Now when might we get a Boxer….
Wow. I’ve not dipped into super-modern but oh my good gosh look at that thing.
That’s one great looking tank.
You know, I wasn’t going to say anything, but threads like this are why historical will always be the smallest sub-genre in the community, and why I haven’t been posting on the site nearly as much as in happier days past. @cpauls1 makes a small “didn’t check Wikipedia first” error and three people pounce. So yeah, he gets defensive. I would too. I know him personally, I’ve been to his house and gamed at his table, I really don’t know the reason for this kind of reaction. Nobody likes a sniper. Then again, some of these guys are also friends… Read more »
Thank @oriskany . ERA aside, one only needs to do a battlefield tour of 73 easting to see how well Soviet kit stood up to western tanks. Kudos to those M1 and M2 crews. 🙂
This thread is why I mostly stick to near future sci-fi. You’re never wrong. 🙂
I find that nothing else quite gets in the way of a good historical wargaming, as much as historically accurate information.
Who needs such bullshit, we are just playing with toys after all.
APFSDS resistant or not, it is an awesome model, and kudos to Empress for producing such quality vehicles.
Originally that was my point. 🙂
