Bolt Action Blast you Away with Mortars and The Crack SAS!
May 14, 2012 by brennon
Following in the footsteps of the Belgian Anti-Tank Gun, Warlord Games have released another set for your Belgian fighters. Check out the FRC 76mm Mortar below...
The FRC 76mm Mortar was an adaptable piece of kit during World War II. Mostly being used as a mortar firing over long distances it could also be used as an infantry gun. This kit was even taken and adapted by the German forces as the War moved on.
But if you're looking for a team ready to take on the most dangerous of missions then look no further than this preview of the SAS troops for Bolt Action. This is just a taster of the characterful models being released to take on the Germans, raiding docks and taking down special targets on the table top.
I for one can't wait for the SAS to be released, it should be a fantastic set.
What do you think?
Good bit of individual character to those SAS models with their different poses and weapons – I think one of them even has a captured German MP40 – like they each have specific roles.
He who dares Rodders, he who dares my son… 😉
Mange tout
I think your right
By this time next year, we’ll have won the war 😉
Not even world of miniature wargaming is safe from SAS.
I would have liked to see this done up with the iconic and larger Landrover. That looks like a Willys. Guess they used both. Anyway, great stuff and would be a lot of fun hanging things off the vehicle: rucksacks, jerricans, ammo boxes, cam nets. The list goes on…
They learned the magic of over-equipped all-terrain vehicles by the LRDG who taxied the SAS (and other “nutjobs”) in Chevrolets and Willys (less commonly as the 4WD used more fuel) in the North Africa. Later, in the European theater I believe they used Willys more extensively (probably because of the shorter wheelbase, the 4WD and better availability of parts).
The Landrover was AFAIK a post-war machine, equipped and used by the doctrines developed during WW2.
Note the tire in front of the grille, that reduced the air intake, but prevented stray bullets from puncturing the radiator.
Hands down the best special forces in the history and very cool models.
U.S. Navy SEALs!
Thanks for the update lucas. I’ve seen a lot of North Africa pics of those boys and assumed all that gear was piled on a landrover, given the nationality of the SAS. I would have taken a Landrover over Detroit trash any day!
And US forces later in the Gulf War often did take the Land Rover instead of the Hummer, as it was easier to haul with aircraft and use in built-up areas. The Chevy trucks SAS used in North Africa however, were Canadian built, and quite reliable.
I’m Canadian built too :-).Never felt safe in a hummer. In Afghanistan Canadians used the South African nyala, and the Mercedes G-wagon inside the wire.
The SAS look like very nice models. I may just have to start collecting Brits for my WWII skirmish gaming.
