1-48 Tactic is a card-based World War II skirmisher that we've talked about before here at OnTableTop and the folks behind the game are now back on Kickstarter looking to add more cards and more factions into the mix.

1-48 Tactics Main

The idea behind the game is that you take control of a small squad of soldiers and do battle in very close and intense firefights. This isn't a game about massive number of troops and tanks but of individual characters who are struggling against each other in a more man-on-man format. Think of your little team of soldiers as a group of main characters from a movie where all of the attention is focused on them.

Playing 1-48 Tactic

Before we dive into what this particular campaign offers, it would probably be a good idea to look at how the game plays. Thankfully, 1-48 Tactic's team has provided us with a bunch of nice infographics and videos as to how it all plays out.

1-48 Tactics How To Play

The game itself seems like a really tight tactical puzzle for you to solve where you're working out how exactly to use your Action Tokens each turn in order to get the most from your soldiers. You can actually see the game being played in this video below by Tabletopbattle...

A key element to this new Kickstarter is that it is looking to allow you to play the game with bigger forces of models thanks to the growth in choice but also with more options across the board. However, the game is still a very intimate affair where each soldier gets a name so you better look after them!

1-48 Squad Building

Whilst the game is focused on being played with 1/48 scale miniatures, the team have also put together options as part of this campaign in order to just get the cards rather than the models so you can use whatever 28mm you have lying around as well.

1-48 Tactics Card Anatomy

This style of World War II game is what I've been looking for and whilst I know there are games out there handle this reduced number of models, it's nice to know that 1-48 Tactics has taken that as the core of their design philosophy in order to make a more unique experience. It also seems like a lot of effort has gone into researching the period and creating a realistic time on the tabletop where each action really does matter in the heat of the moment.

The Kickstarter

So, the Kickstarter itself is based on a card-only reward system although you can still buy their miniatures and more from their webstore HERE. Money raised from this campaign is going to be going towards the creation of the US 1st Infantry Division in card form which is also rather cool.

Additionally, they are hoping to open up the game to include a few more models per side if you want to take things to the next level and they are looking to introduce a system of booster packs where you will get your hands on a range of common, uncommon and rare cards (signifying weapons, equipment, characters etc) which can be used to build your teams with.

Blind buys immediately set alarm bells ringing in my mind but the team have explained more of their thinking about this on the Kickstarter page. It is worth reading the Kickstarter in more detail if you'd like to see how it all breaks down as an offer to backers.

What do you make of 1-48 Tactic and have you backed their previous campaigns?
