Mercs Intro Game 1 – Attack On South African Villa – Clear the Streets Part 1
February 25, 2013 by warzan
Warren gets his first taste of Mercs gameplay with our special guest for the week Lucas one of the Mercs Black Ops team. This first mission centers around a small town guarded by the forces of the Sedafu with an insurgent team from the CCC trying to clear the streets in preparation for a future attack on a villa to capture a VIP who has taken refuge in the area.
AT43? APC ?
Good Spot that Man!
Well done mate 🙂
AT-43 🙂 I bought the Oni and Red Blok army boxes after seeing your video on them years ago. Great value sets, nice models and pre painted so only had to do some washes and details (base them really), a real time saver like you were saying about HeroClix in the weekender. About a month after though Rackham went under, does that company that bought the Confrontation stuff have access to AT-43 as well anyone know? I bet if they kickstartered that now it would find a much bigger market. Plus I really want a couple boxes of the Oni… Read more »
oni i think it was
Ok, just started the video, and I had to pause to just say that that table is just … AMAZING! Wow.. love the set up already. Now to continue .. ;D
Fantastic table !!!
( And always like to see AT-43 stuff on show….low walls from the Damocles box set….nice ! 🙂 )
( maybe one day we will an AT-43 battle report. 😉 )
Nice video guys. was at a good pace for us to learn the rules etc. The cam corder was a nice addition also. Again though the card looks cumbersome. Not sure why models can’t move x inches x their movement allowance with +1 snap as they are fiddly to use at times and a tape measure would be fine imo. But as they say, “Dem’s Da Rulez Mon”. Like the turn sequence, as it always makes you weary about next turn, although binding troops together is a nice addition that helps even things out. So as seen in the video,… Read more »
The cards look like a clunky way to move and the narrative element of the game seems too weak for me. I really don’t see how this game enhances the war gaming experience. It all just seems a bit gimmicky.
Watched more to see the table. 😀 Lucas already gave me a fantastic intro into Mercs. Where, in a 2vs2 game and I was sided with Lucas, I managed to kill more of Lucas’ forces than our opponants!
I will say this for all the guys out there with doubts. In concept this game can seem a little weird or gimmicky, but if you play a game you would be surprised at how well the cards actually work and how fun and fast paced it really is. When I was first getting started with MERCS I was weary of how the movement would work most of all, but after playing it fits the game perfectly.
I found that the cards actually slowed the game down, K.I.S.S. is always the best policy imo. 🙂
I wish the makers of MERCS all the best. But much like that dark potential game, I just don’t know if this can make it.
My litmus test for miniatures: Is __________ as good a sculpt as a miniature from Infinity?
If “Yes”, then I look further into the game. If “No”, then it gets a pass.
So far I haven’t found any game with miniatures as good as Infinity or game mechanics anywhere near as dynamic.
But I do hope that this game succeeds as the makers seem like decent blokes who love their game.
Really enjoyed the video, Lucas is clearly very knowledgeable.
One thing that caught my attention and really entices me to get this game is the mention that most games are played on a 2×3 table, not a 4×4 or heaven forbid a 4×8.
That’s a fairly standard dining table size so pretty much anyone can play at home just as easily as the local store.
Great intro to the rules, I look forward to seeing a 5 vs 5 game to get a better idea of how involved it can be.
I thought the best quote was “I’ve got a 6, therefore I win!”
Great stuff chaps, much obliged.
Gorgeous table guys. I’ve got a sefadu team so i’m cheering on Lucas. Now for part 2…
loved this video. Diving straight in and getting into the action. Off to watch part 2….
i love the idea of the the thing that models don’t have point cost and and you can just field 5 of them dependable on missions. For now i see this game superb for people who are just to come into war game world and for those who wanna start new game type witch wouldn’t be costly and wouldn’t require hordes of minis.
By the way i found in the rules that you can use snap to cover at any given time of an action. (before any action, in the middle of any action and after any action)
I never game without my trusty tape measure, and so it is sad that they scrapped that. Plus also wouldn’t the cards themselves get damaged over time (unless they are plastic like Wyrd’s Fate/Puppet Decks). The cards just seem fiddly, and i cannot understand why you would use the side of the cards, when you can simply use the full length of the card. IMHO, with the inches system, it allows a tonne of flexibility with movement.
The cards can get beat up however there are hard plastic cards available to help with that. And like I have said the movement system seems weird but it works very well. I wouldn’t completly discount it until you at least try it.
Nice use of AT-43 stuff at our local gaming store there are some boxes with model for sale still 🙂
APCs are from ONI in AT-43. Which is a really hard army to find anything for right now. I’ve been looking for a while.
AAaw maan, i want mercs to finland
i am here for prizes
Like the way this game plays!
Looks like fun, I’ll have to get busy & paint my MERCS minis.
The vehicles are from AT43s’ ONI Corp and considering what they normally sell for on Ebay must be made of gold.
Its because the company that made them went belly up. Sad I know, but also being one of the last made models from them, the number made is low. Thats most likely the reason for the sky high prices for them on Ebay.
