Mantic Games Fire Up Pre-Orders For Deadzone 3rd Edition!
September 14, 2021 by brennon
Mantic Games has been firing up pre-orders for the newest edition of their Sci-Fi skirmish game, Deadzone. Third Edition is on the way with a brand new Starter Set PLUS loads of options for those who are veterans of the game.
Deadzone Third Edition Two Player Starter Set // Mantic Games
At the core of the game is a brand new Starter Set which is features above. This set comes with two factions, the GCPS and the Veer-Myn, alongside a host of Battlezone scenery which is incredibly modular. You will also find everything that you need for you and another player to dive in and start experiencing this new and improved skirmish wargame.
The folks at Mantic Games sat down for a run-through of the changes to the new edition below. It's a handy hour-long video that goes into a lot of detail as to what you can expect...
Deadzone Briefing // Mantic Games
To give you a rundown of some of the changes there are streamlined rules including updates from Outbreak and Escalation. Improved line of sight mechanics, simple army building for TEN unique factions and of course loads more. You'll also find sixteen scenarios in the core rulebook (ace), a separate force list book for making your teams of soldiers and plenty more where that came from for veterans.
Deadzone Rulebooks & Counters // Mantic Games
As I mentioned, there is a lot for you to check out if you're diving in and giving Deadzone a go. Veterans of the game might just want to get their hands on the books and perhaps some of the terrain sets like the booster pack you see below.
Deadzone Terrain Booster // Mantic Games
The folks at Mantic Games have really gone to town on this new edition and produced a range of fantastic options for newcomers and veterans alike. Gaming mats, dice packs, token sets and more are all available over on the Deadzone section of their webstore HERE.

As well as the core releases for those needing to get into the game, the folks at Mantic have also shown off some of the optional Faction Starters that you can use to play as factions that are not the GCPS or Veer-Myn. Here is a list of some of them below...
GCPS Recon Squad Starter // Mantic Games
Veer-Myn Claw Pack Starter Set // Mantic Games
Enforcer Strike Protocol Starter // Mantic Games
Forge Father Hold Warriors Starter // Mantic Games
Asterian War Clade Starter // Mantic Games
This is just the tip of the iceberg though when it comes to the world of Deadzone. There are also lots and lots of Booster Sets which you can snap up which build on the options available for all of the factions you've seen above and more.
To give you an idea of the factions we mentioned above, here is a list of who you can play as...
- Asterians – aloof aliens that use incredibly advanced androids and mechs to bring balance to the galaxy… no matter the cost
- Enforcers – the ruthless army of the Council of Seven, used to stamp out insurrection and control the Deadzones with extreme prejudice
- Forge Fathers – an ancient race of stoic dwarfs that use their incredible engineering skills to strip a planet of its resources and won’t let anyone get in their way
- GCPS – each corporation has its own private army who are often left to fend for themselves in the containment zones when the enemy dropships arrive
- Marauders – piratical greenskins that travel the galaxy waiting to pounce on a Deadzone and sell their wares to the highest bidder
- Mazon Labs – a corporation that has become obsessed with secret experiments that twist people into deformed monsters used as terrible ‘field tests’ in abandoned Deadzones
- Nameless – humanity’s greatest threat could be this mysterious race of semi-aquatic aliens that have been driven to conflict by religious fervour
- The Plague – an insidious virus that spreads throughout the galaxy and turns its victims into ravening beasts that only have one purpose… to further the spread of the disease
- Rebs – determined to fight against the seemingly tyrannical spread of the mega-corporations, the Rebs are a mix of humans and aliens that fight from the shadows
- Veer-myn – underneath sprawling cities or hiding in the dark corners of vast space stations, the Veer-myn are giant rat-like creatures just waiting to strike in order to protect their nest
You'll note that a few of the factions haven't been expanded on with Starter Sets and such yet but watch out for them in the future. I know a lot of people are very eager to snap up the likes of the Marauders for example and the Rebs.
Whilst you might not see your favourite faction as part of the pre-order page, you can find existing releases as part of the larger Deadzone Section of their webstore. Just scroll on down and you'll find what you need!

The veer-myn look brilliant and space rat’s is a great touch for all sci-fi gaming.
Love it. Deadzone has always been Mantic’s best sci-fi game, and there’s no reason this game can’t be on the level of any boxed product that GW cranks out.
I bought 2nd edition as an impulse at UK Games Expo when it came out which doesn’t seem that long ago.
Still not got it to the table… partly because the contents were a bit tedious to assemble.Disappointing that there were not enough dice in 2nd edition core box to play the game without rerolling.
Yeah, 2E had Enforcers & Forge Fathers, and the Enforcer models required assembling two separate legs each attached ball-joint style to the torso, then separate arms & head, which got fiddly & irritating rather quickly. And sadly it appears they are using the same Enforcer models for 3E. Fortunately the Forge Fathers were super simple (as Dwarves should be!)
They’re unlikely to replace the Enforcers kit for a while. It’s a hard plastic kit which means replacing it is expensive and, apart from being a little fiddly, the quality of the Enforcer miniatures is otherwise pretty decent.
Man, I still have so much of the stuff from the first & second Deadzone kickstarters that’s still unbuilt. Hell, I clipped out all the scenery panels, organised them and they’ve not left the box I put them in. Shame as it was a great system from the off that’s only gotten better by all accounts.
Still dig the Enforcer aesthetic for power-armoured super soldiers….
I can highly recommend giving it a go. Very easy to learn and once you get into it, reasonably quick. And if you really like it, barring the odd character miniature, you can get pretty much everything for any given army for £50 (although in DZ 3.0 that looks.like it may be £75, but still pretty good value!)
Those look really good. Deadzone is looking very tempting.
As a game Deadzone does appeal to me, the gaming board, the mechanics and having read the rules it is up there as a good skirmish system. I’ve never bought in though as none of the factions appeal and some of the models are outright awful and I could not muster the will to paint let alone game with them. Some of the Enforcers with different helmets look pretty good so small things seem to make the difference.
Having a ton of stuff for DZ1, does anyone know if the upgrade pack will be enough for someone who skipped version 2? It always looked a good game and it’d be nice to put all that plastic to use.
From a second look it might just be the novelty dice
Ben, no! I can’t afford this and, as you reported it, its your fault if I buy it…not mine
Also got a ton of DZ1 stuff, even got the DZ2 book.
I might buy the Veteran Bundle, but the current custom taxes would make this way too costly.
Guess I will have to wait for the pdf version.
I love this game (got 4 factions), just never get a chance to play it very often… like ever.
Think i’ll wait for a digital edition of the rules and force books
I am well chuffed to see Deadzone 3.0, one of my favourite games! Despite the increase in price (and they’re still quite reasonable), I really like the way they’re restructuring the faction starter and booster sets. Hopefully all factions will get the same treatement; a basic faction starter plus a couple of themed boosters, each with a different leader miniature as the leaders are how you change the play style of your army.
All in all, very excited
