Welcome To Loka: The World Of Fantasy Chess
February 18, 2013 by brennon
Alessio Cavatore has been very busy it seems behind the scenes at Mantic Games. Today was the moment they announced the next collaboration between River Horse and themselves, Loka: The World of Fantasy Chess...
Loka is, as the name would suggest a Chess game played using Fantasy armies based on the elements alongside fantastical terrain and ulitising a simple combat mechanic for when the forces come to blows.
Above you can see two of the models for the factions of Air and Earth. One guess as to which side I will be pledging my allegiance. The miniatures have been sculpted by Wojchiek Flis and are looking pretty damn good, even as a first preview.
Much more news on Loka will be coming during the week and a Kickstarter is planned for the near future. It will certainly be exciting to see how this all pans out.
Are you interested to see this game launch?

That’s the same game than this one ? : http://apps.facebook.com/shuurofb/
At least the art is the same and surely is Shuuro – Turanga based.
Considering the artwork on the front of the box is drawn from Shurro I would imagine it is linked to it. As I say, there is plenty of more coming throughout the week on just exactly what is it.
BoW Ben
Loka is somehow based on Shuuro & Turanga (those two also had the abstract concept of elemental armies fighting each other, especially in the online version), but the mechanics will be different. Shuuro plays like chess with a little twist, but Loka will use dice to resolve battles, which is completely new.
“Dice to resolve battles”.
Yeah, THAT’s new… Sure…
All kidding aside, I don’t know enough about the game to judge. Here’s to hoping it’s good !
New to chess… -.-
Looks a nice few mini’s!! I was always planning on building a 40K chess set with Orcs and Blood Angels. I think this could be VERY popular and easy to pick up and play with young’uns. 🙂
Looks intriguing
I love Shuuro/Turanga. I’m pretty interested in seeing how this Loka turns out.
