Meet The Catalan Brawler From New Malifaux Outcast Starter Box
April 9, 2021 by fcostin
The Outcast Starter Box is up for pre-order online, and ready to release this June 2021. Wyrd has taken a close look at one of the members in the box, the Catalan Brawler - and we are going to see what kind of punch he packs in this new starter set, for new players picking up Malifaux and starting a crew with the Outcasts.
Although there are four different miniatures in this starter box, the Catalan Brawler has been announced with details surrounding the character. So we are going to get up-close and personal to put his brawling to the test.
Costing 8, the Catalan Brawler is one tanky boy. using his metal fists are brutal weapons to cause some serious melee damage. His Armour +1 ensures that he is just as thick-skinned, and the Cage Fighter defensive trigger will really put his skills to the test - enabling an outright and constant and brutal jab - several times over which cannot be escaped.
The real outstanding move for me is the Brass Knuckles attack option, not just by providing a dirty damage input in the move itself, but providing a staggering effect too.
Although he does look like quite the offensive beast, he does provide some defence to the team too by using the Toss in the Mud Action to help his crew in removing a condition.
Other miniatures included inThe Outcast Starter Box are three other models: Yannic Waller and 2 Catalan Riflemen. This box includes the Syndicate keyword, so you can join crews with both Anya and the Condor Rails.
The Outcast Starter Box will be hitting store shelves in June, not just with the miniatures, but providing you with tokens, a measurement tool, and an Outcast themed fate deck. Giving you everything you need to get started with an Outcast Crew in Malifaux.
Who is your favourite faction in Malifaux you would like to see a starter set for?

I am catalan (from Catalonia) and I approve this.
SEAL OF APPROVAL ACHIEVED!
Looks good.
Really nice to see a proper starter set for the different factions. Malifaux is such a deep game that it can be a little intimidating to get into and make sure you have what you need. I like the lore of the world but never managed to get more than a handful of games in. The models in this box seem a little less dynamic than their usual fayre… makes sense to ease people into the complexity of the sculpts!
I agree! Starter Sets certainly make the process a little less daunting, rather than dipping into wherever you like. It’s great to see a starting point for those who are looking to venture through the breach! Now to look out for the Neverborn one… hehe
Malifaux has some truly gorgeous miniatures, and the card mechanic is a lot of fun. But I agree with @ninjilly there are so many gangs / factions out there it can be off putting.
I think I bought far too many and special characters back when I used to play it. My favourite where the Mexican gang they looked mad and had a crazy Grandmother in a wheel chair – not sure I ever finished painting her.
Yes! The Perdita Core Box. Abuela Ortega is a fantastic model. I love the lil skulls hanging from her sombrero! So nice to see Wyrd adding some starter boxes to make the starting point a little less intimidating.
That was her! Thank you! I have her in my display cabinet (or as its become over lockdown a jumble of all manner of miniatures just stood about!) I must get round to painting her up.
