Games Of The Day: Malifaux
March 30, 2013 by warzan
In the second of our closer looks Warren chats with Kat about the weird and wonderful world of Malifaux. See what you think of this strange game by Wyrd Miniatures.
Sam certainly took a shine to this during the afternoon and I think he's looking to get started in it!
Have you played Malifaux?

I’m a ‘faux fan boy it has to be said. I’ll show you how to play but I won’t show you how to play well, luck of the cards isn’t entirely on my side 😀 Probably THE best tabletop game I’ve played, I like the fluff (its the only game where I’ve read each of the 5 books at least twice each), I love the gameplay and I love the models. So much so its now the backbone checklist for other potential games for me to get into. One of my friends uses Lilith, she’s nasty and I’ve only came… Read more »
I last got to play Malifaux at MiniCon, where I learned that Lilith hits like an express train if you let her get close to you.. and sure enough she mauled my poor Rasputina in a single round. I’ve since purchased my first starter box and I’m looking forward to getting the chance to try it out. Hopefully I won’t have to wait until MiniCon 2014 to play it again!
Liking the coverage of the day to date, dudes. But I must admit that Lilith and her bush really intrigued me!
😉
Warren wasn’t going let that one go by. Where’s Ming the Editor ?
I’m a really big fan of malifaux so seeing more coverage here is great.
I played 2 games on our own tabletop gameday at the local club.
What a great day. Really enjoyed the Malifaux to the point that I bought a rule book and cards and am now on my way to start a whole new game.
well there you go I had no idea Malifaux didn’t use dice just cards, how interesting. From those who play is it a great game? as good as say infinity and the like??? Ive only played 40k but would love to get into a skirmish game, but have no idea which.
Yep Mailfaux is a very good skirmish game everyone in the game has there own little pice of background the core rules are very easy to pick up and the soulstone and control hand add some degree of resource management Kat did a really good job of showing people the game
After playing this game I immediately went and bought the rule book and a deck of cards. Currently wondering whether to go for a faction of the Guild or the Ten Thunders
Do both Sam! Join me! 🙂 I’m doing the Guild (those being my Ortega’s you were using yesterday) and the Ten Thunders….and me and Kat will probably pick up that Tutalis game at some point, btw 🙂
Excellent. Good to know you enjoyed the game. As for the Guild I am tempted to go for a team of Lady Justice’s Death Marshals.
I got the dreamer with lord chompy bits, teddy bear, day dreamers and they are nothing but a fun time on the game board.

I am glad to see a woman on BoW. Good coverage. I knew nothing this game. You got the game basics clear and out in just a few minutes. Nice job.
Malifaux is one of the best skirmish games out there imho. The interaction with the cards and the soulstones give it a real original twist. I play Pandora, the Dreamer and LCB and recently started a Hamlin crew (beat Sunabe with it) and i never ever had a dull game. The way you play the game by randomly getting a job and get to choose your scheme (s) makes for a very nice play experience ( do I kill my opponent or win the game? choices, choices). I hardly ever realy recomend a game to anyone. But Malifaux is one… Read more »
I could be wrong, seeing as I don’t have my book’s handy. But, if memory serves, Mature Nephilim are rare2. Now please double check me, but I believe that means there can never be more than two on the board. Think that even stops you maturing past two….. now I’m going to have to go rule hunting.
Anyone able to recommend a good how to play video to cover this game?
