Lord Of The Rings Online Takes The Paths Of The Dead
July 11, 2014 by brennon
Lord of the Rings Online, which I still consider to be one of my favourite MMORPGs out there is continuing their journey alongside the One Ring with Paths of the Dead which takes you beyond Rohan and into the realm of Gondor and the South of Middle-Earth.
While there are a lot of naysayers surrounding the game for it to have survived this long is quite the achievement and the team behind the game have promised to keep at it for many months and hopefully years to come! This new update builds on the current expansion which had you fighting in Rohan and trying to hold back the attacks from Saruman in Isengard and takes you up above Dunharrow and into the creepy realm of traitors and betrayers.
As well as that Path of the Dead you'll also be venturing into Gondor and exploring more of its landscape while no doubt holding back enemies aplenty. This will also have you pushing up towards level 100 and unlocking more possibilities for your character in the process!
This all sounds very cool indeed and means that I'll have to actually put some hours in and finish the content I haven't done with my level 70 Dwarf Minstrel! So much to do!
Do you still play Lord of the Rings Online?

No.
I found it a bland and boring wow clone.
I found the game decidedly more interesting and exciting than WoW despite the fact that it came out feeling like it, a clone as you say. I think the way they deal with story quests and the nature of some of the scenarios you can play is really well done – and they are properly tough too, no push over. Add to that that it’s also Middle-Earth and I was very much sold. It’s certainly not the best MMO out there and Wildstar is certainly looking like it could be the next big thing but considering they went F2P and… Read more »
I love LOTRO. It’s a delight to roam the Shire or do your part to control the Warg population of just about anywhere! Unfortunately it sits as my 3rd favourite MMO behind The Secret World and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. This means I don’t get to play it as often as I want to! I have a Lifetime subscription though so it’s always good to know that points are building up so I don’t need to spend any money on the expansions when I do get round to playing! That said I’m only level 37 with my highest… Read more »
That’s the thing – if you’re a big LoTR buff this game is wonderful, there are just so many neat touches and the presentation and atmosphere is well done. It also benefits from not being populated by as many of the aggressive types that you find in some MMOs, and instead people who are fans of the LoTR universe – a good thing, as they say the people make the place! 🙂
I love this game, especially for how the story is handled, but, ironically, it’s the miniature hobby that has taken away from the hours I used to play MMO’s… this one or any other. Now I spend that time painting Heavy Gear models, making terrain for Infinity, and , of course, building my Minas Tirith army for GW’s older War of the Ring rules.
