The Gundabad Ogres Do Battle Thanks To Forge World
January 15, 2017 by brennon
Forge World continue to build on their Hobbit range with some more models from The Battle Of The Five Armies, the third film in the trilogy. Here we have the Gundabad Ogres...
These fellows are the ones you would have seen battling their way through the streets against Bard and his Men of Lake Town as well as trying to bash their way through the enemy lines against the Elves of Mirkwood and the Dwarves of the Iron Hills. They are certainly interesting looking and I definitely prefer the one on the right, of the two at least.
I think his expression steps away from the overly human features of the other Ogre and gives him more of a monstrous edge.
What do you think?

Already have planned to order both. They are top looking models, and the Forgeworld Hobbit stuff I have received so far has been excellent. (As have the blood bowl referees which were very nice molds.
They seem faithful enough to the movies. Would have been nicer in plastic from GW but sure what can you do
@mage no if they were in plastic they would have been available in Warhammer stores and be twice as expensive…. thank you Oh God of wargamming for the the forgeworld loophole for your poor blighted southern sons and daughters
Just bore everyone to tears as to what great value these are an ogre is 25 A$ cheaper than a new ogroid thaumaturge. Bless you Forgeworld
Nailed the sculpts, superb job. Will be adding a couple to my Gundabads, once I’ve made a bit more progress on my Iron HIlls.
At last a sculpt that has a reason to have one foot on something. Splatt !!
I really like these. I feel like I am getting drawn back into LOTR gaming.
Nice sculpts indeed, too bad about the price
Youch! Some of these new models are pricey. But the ogres at least are really superb. Love both of them.
Those are some nice sculpts.
great ogre’s and quite large in size.
Great sculpting but prohibitive price! I would love the models but a decent sized army is going to cost around £700.
That…seems a little on the higher-end of price. At 600 points, assuming you go ALL FW, I wouldn’t think more then a few hundred quid…MAYBE up to £400, considering most monsters sit around 40-70 points a piece, and heroes (especially the “fated” ones…) are 150-200.
I’d say the pricing is maybe a wee bit higher then we’d like, but in general, pretty spot-on.
Hi Ironmonger, I was thinking of a decent sized army being 1000 points which is the size of force I used semi weekly with my old gaming group. At £60 a warband it is expensive, and with named Heroes foot and mounted now retailing at £40, you don’t think that’s frankly obscene for two resin figures? I would have loved to have got my God Sons into the game, but a resin model of Legolas in finecast for £25 is out of the question.
I’d say Australian players will be happier with the cheaper forge world prices?
Sooooo chuffed. Awesome. Sculpts are spot-on, paint jobs great, price for the sculpt/size/points/rules is pretty good, actually. All in all, well done! I mean, on top of everything… SBG is getting lots of love: that, in itself, is a brilliant miracle after the disastrous last 2 years…!
Now, if we could just get GW to… I don’t know… PRINT THE NEW BOOK AGAIN?!
I used to enjoy going into G.W. ten years ago as I was Lord of the Rings player and gamer. The prices were never cheap but you could get a starter army for £50, and pricing was within the reach of younger players, and it was an excellent introduction to the hobby. The shops always tried to carry the whole miniature range which meant that I always came out of the shop with a purchase of something I hadn’t got or wanted duplicates of. When the LOTR range first started it looked so fresh and new, and I started collecting… Read more »
They are so cool! I’m looking forward to be crushed by these for our SBG Grand Campaing! Just hope they release all the required models ASAP!
I’m so glad the game is alive! Hosting the Norwegian Masters next week, just 14 participants, but it’s grown every year!
Does anyone know the rules for the new gundabad models. Im not spending $98 for a book I only need 1 page from… haha
