Forge World’s Dain Ironfoot & The Iron Hills Dwarves Available First At Ardacon
October 13, 2016 by brennon
Forge World are going to be at the first Ardacon, celebrating Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit on the tabletop, which is to be held in Manchester from the 21st to the 23rd of October. And, it will be your first chance to pick up Dain Ironfoot and his stalwart Iron Hills Dwarves...
This mighty Dwarf Lord played by Billy Connelly in the Battle of the Five Armies movie comes on foot with his massive warhammer and of course mounted atop a battle boar, ready to charge into the enemy.
He won't be fighting alone however as Forge World have also designed up some Iron Hills Dwarves who were fantastic in the film, especially when they set up that immense shield wall!
Lastly, we also turn out attention to one of the great warmachines of the Iron Hills Dwarf army with their Ballista.
This is definitely on the horizon and I'd imagine it won't be long until this joins your collection too. You can imagine that I'm rather excited about the prospect of leading this army into battle for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit!
What do you think of the models and will you be at Ardacon?

very tempted to go as a local lad.
Tolkien and forge world is the thing that would bring me back into the fold.
are you going Ben?
It’s good to see that FW has picked ball and did justice to Iron Hill Dwarves.
Ironfoot looks brilliant.
Oh come on !!! Release this already. Please!!!! (who’s the little piggie-wig, who’s the little piggie -wig. ……) … ahem …… Being waiting for this since the Forge World/Hobbit/ LotR announcement.
Kinda tempted – I need a dwarf King on a beast for my KoW dwarves. Dunno how well he’d match with the style of the mantic dwarf army, though.
Stylistically he should fit in OK. I’d remove the crest from his helm so it matches the Mantic dwarves flat top helms though. LotR are a slightly different scale though so he might look a bit off when set next to some chunky “heroic” scale dwarves.
Now that’s what I call proper dwarfs!! They look fantastic 😎
I am going to have agree that is what I was going say. These look far better than any dwarves I have seen out there thus far including anything (especially) from games-workshop.
Just finished watching Battle of the Five Armies. I love these dwarves.
That is one idiotic mount. They’ve fallen behind Scibor in a big way in terms of dwarfs. Not sure what to make of that ballista. Has a clean Fisher Price feel about it. Gack.
They are aesthetically accurate to the hobbit films so a comparison to other lines isn’t really fair on them. The miniature looks as it should from the film. Love it for what it is haha
Don’t bother trying to have a reasonable discussion with cpauls1 on GW. He’s taken over from chrisg as the fulltime GW hater/CB flagwaver. It’s boring.
Thinks that the ballista above is ‘fisher price’ but is convinced that Infinity are highly detailed minis.
I see haha. I absolutely love infinity and think their sculpts are some of the best in the business but I also am able to appreciate gw and subsidiaries 🙂 I’m a well rounded shiny syndromer
Infinity do indeed have some of the best sculpts going ATM in my opinion (nomads are my thing) but that’s aesthetically/conceptually speaking (which is near entirely subjective).
It does not mean their models are highly detailed (which is part of their design) or of higher quality- they have smooth areas mixed with angular shapes. Hence they are challenging to paint and have a unique finish when well executed.
Unfortunately this is a distinction lost in the ‘hate storm’ and ‘flag waving’ that is increasingly present here mate.
I agree, spot on to the movie aesthetic. Can’t wait for the chariots and ram riders.
IMO despite the fact the Hobbit films were a little bit disappointing, Jackson and Weta really nailed the visual design of Middle Earth.
And this carries over well to the minis (was my point lol)
Visually films are spot on. Minis doing a great job of drawing on that. New Gundabad orcs and ogres are fantastic as well. Goat cav and goblin mercenaries are the ones I want to see next.
Great sculpts, looking forward to starting my Iron Hils army.
Nailed it Middle Earth team.
Great sculpts won’t make Ardacon but will have a small force of these, spot on to the film.
