Forge World Unleash Gwaihir & A Troll Brute On Middle-Earth
June 24, 2017 by brennon
The Windlord himself, Gwaihir has now been added to the Forge World webstore for those of you looking to expand your Middle-Earth collection.
This mighty Eagle is shown in the moments where he and his kin saved Thorin & Company from the Orcs that were tracking them after their passage through Moria. I think the model is nice and dynamic and with a little bit of work you could change up what poor sap is getting clawed to death by those talons.
Sympathy For Trolls?
Are you sad for this poor and unfortunate looking Troll Brute for the forces of Evil?
You might remember these Trolls from the Battle Of Five Armies in the final movie from the trilogy. The design is certainly very different from what you've seen before from Trolls but it doesn't look too bad. You can also get a version with Bofur riding it too!
What do you think about these new releases?

That troll looks really creepy while that eagle would make good display piece.
I’m not overly keen on the troll. The eagle is outstanding though.
the eagle does look fantastic.
this troll and that dwarf wagon GW do are the reason why Christopher Tolkien won’t let anybody near his fathers work. whether you like the sculpts or not some of what GW are doing is just miles away from the professors world. I understand why folks would look past things like these as who doesn’t want to spend time lost in those incredible stories. but some of the things they are doing cross the line for me. apparently some people think that Tolkien needs improving and they’re the guy to do it. yeah lets take possible the greatest fairy tale… Read more »
To be fair GW are basing their sculpts on what New Line and Peter Jackson have created. As someone who has read the Lord of the Rings once a year for the last, well lets just say I read it first at 12 and I’m now closer to 50 than 40, I’m still captivated by the story and the world. I have also taken a great deal of pleasure from the movie adaptations regardless of their constant straying from Tolkein’s path. I enjoy both Tolkein’s original works and Jackson’s take on Middle Earth and god knows I’m loving the sculpts… Read more »
@wesadie1969 I totally understand mate, that’s why I threw the bit in about seeing past things like that. I almost referenced the movies which as you mentioned is the source for the game. the movies as well as the game both offer a lot to fans but they still do somethings that take me out of the setting. there is no doubt though that we would have a greater chance of seeing the content that is currently out of reach if they stayed true. it’s all good though and it’s all about what works for you, I could always get… Read more »
Oddly enough it was my friends dad, a latin teacher who introduced me to Tolkein. Never looked back. Haven’t played the later Lord of the Rings RPG but have fond memories of MERP.
For all their flaws I hope that the films were maybe the gateway into Tolkein’s world that my friends dad was for me all those years ago.
I’m just a sucker for anything Tolkein.
fine point.
That eagle is great, the troll not so much. The movie that the troll is from made the dark forces extremely viscous compared to the books depictions of them.
I’m really digging the troll. Shame about the £75 price tag on it.
I was trying to blank this Troll abomination out of my head – he’s kinda like JarJar in the SW prequels – an advert in how wrong they “got” the tone of the film – somehow both horrific and ridiculous – and in broad daylight only a couple of days after they had used the rising sun to turn some other Trolls to stone.
Gwaihir looks pretty sweet tho.
