What Makes For A Good Games Master?
We talk about what makes for a good Games/Dungeon Master with some of the best here at UK Games Expo.
It's a delicate and fine art, sometimes a thankless task too, and so when you get a good Games Master you should certainly make sure you give them their due!
What do you think makes for a good GM/DM when you get to the tabletop?
This sounds like real fun, love the Cthullu thing.
nice to see the GM’s getting some love. hope they all have a great weekend.
Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in-between
How can we be wrong
Sail away with me to another world
And we rely on each other, ah-ah
From one lover to another, ah-ah
Patience, a running imagination, and genuine interest in the game’s lore
Adaptability, being able to change things on the fly because sometimes the players just go their own way and you can’t force them one way even if you have abunch of things planned.
One of the most interesting videos from the Expo so far
I could never be a GM, much prefer to be taken on a journey myself
Justin what does it take to get a place at the table for this Role play Masters? do you paid a ticket to get in? or is there prerequisite?
interesting video, would like to see a “debrief” video afterwards on how things worked out
Nice look into GM’ing
The shaper of quests, The keeper of keys, The forger of heroes!
The stroker of cats, the drinker of tea ..
Interesting.. good points
Coming up to 20 years since I moved away from my old Call of Cthulhu group. We had a great party and an outstanding GM. Great fun and occasional brown trouser moments. And sanity checks, always the sanity checks.
Good luck to these guys. No planned campaign can survive contact with players
Patience, tolerance, imagination and reliability are great in GMs.
Definitely one of the more entertaining videos. I remember playing this a long time ago. Glad to see that it is still running strong. Really liked the comments made by the gm’s.
I love reading Lovecraft’s work and have always wanted to play the Call of Cthulhu RPG.
Please forgive this shameless post as I’m going after either the 4Ground stuff or the Bushido stuff. I play Bushido here in the states. I teach it to whoever will listen, and I just try and represent it as it is. The best miniature game I’ve played.
Ability to describe little details to really set the science
Thanks for all the tips. I’m the Call of Cthulhu DM for my playgroup.
To be a good GM/DM you need to be able to improvise. As your players go down paths you never intended, you need to appear calm and in charge as you create new things on the fly.
All good information!
Thanks for the show!
Not RPG I have ever played – maybe one day…
I always worry I’d spend ages thinking about some little hidden detail or curio and then the players would just walk past and not even notice…
