The 'Tank Battles of the Pacific' episode of the History Television series 'Greatest Tank Battles' uses CGI recreations to show the role played by US Marine tanks in the Pacific Campaign against fanatical Japanese forces defending the islands of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Interesting video. I can imagine the feeling the Sherman crews had on Iwo Jima getting hung on the volcanic ash. I’ve been stuck in mud like that before and when your butt kicking war machine suddenly becomes a pill box it’s a bit disconcerting.
@mwcannon exactly and a very exposed pill box at that. The 500 pound bombs with an anti-tank mine on top of them were just brutal also.
Can’t believe I missed this when it was on TV. Very interesting and a neat mix of still photography, film and animation.
Hopefully there will be less of these ‘inspirational’ videos as the hit the working week? It looks like they struggled for content and just googled pacific war. Was hoping for more product reviews and painting videos… or even a game to show it in action
Interesting “documentary”, but seriously that patriotic announcer? Terrible…
But very interesting interviews and some of those animations looked quite good (for the budget they obviously had).
The fear of drowning would keep my feet on the shore though.
Driving your tank into a shell hole is just a terrible way to go. especially since you can’t see it coming.

I missed this one too, and I thought I had seen every episode multiple times. I for one don’t mind you guys putting some historical relevance into the site. As they said when the video first started most folks are unaware of the role that tanks played in the Pacific. This type of content allows players to see how those little used bits of a game come into play.
Now i want to make a marine tank list
