I can’t wait to learn more about Infinity and how it plays. I have painted several of the minis for the simple reason that they are incredible miniatures but have not learned how to play

Great. Really looking forward to this Infinity Weekend. A quick question about the game. I recently moved from the UK to live in Canada, I left a great bunch of friends behind including a gaming buddies. So with no gamers in my area I am using my offspring to provide me with some game time. That’s what kids are for right ? I’m looking to get into something new and Infinity really appeals to me. However I am looking to buy into a new game that my 8 year old daughter can also play. Is infinity at it’s basic rule… Read more »

Have you played any miniatures games before other than X-Wing? Miniature games usually have fairly heavy rule sets and Infinity is no exception (One of the biggest in my opinion). I don’t have any kids myself, but I think an 8 year old playing X-Wing is pretty impressive for someone their age. Normally, I would think a game like Infinity would be way to complicated a ruleset for someone that young. I would suggest going to infinitythegame.com and looking at their site a bit. The rulebook is a free pdf download and it has a basic intro game setup. After… Read more »

Yes I played a lot of 40k and a little of WFB. I am a big fan of GW models but unfortunately the pricing is just too steep for me now. I did consider getting the kid into 40k kill team to keep the price down and model count.
I had to sell all my models before our big move, so starting from scratch. With GW that’s a bit too steep for me now.

Also at Beasts of War’s Infinity week from last year they show a good basic game using the Operation Ice Storm box.

Operation Icestorm would be a good place to start because the five missions in the game booklet slowly introduce new rules as you go. You can just use the simple rules for as long as you like and work into the game at her pace.

The two sides in the box are well composed and continue to be useful ‘armies’ even after you’ve fully mastered the beginner scenarios in O:I.

And besides, who wouldn’t want to be a free-wheeling space hippie on a black-ops sabotage team. 😉

Be interesting to know why the factions are fighting in the first place. Like the WoW Mists of Pandaria Intro cinematic, it asks “why do we fight?”

Essentially, they fight for the same reasons we fight now: over resources; political ambitions; industrial espionage; cash…

Publicly, there is only one ‘hot’ war. And that is between the Human Sphere and the Combined Army on the planet Paradiso. Covertly, each force has untold numbers of covert black-ops teams doing Mission:Impossible type raids on each other to achieve their own personal agendas.
