SmogCon VI 2017 Live Blog: Day Two
SmogCon: The Past, Present & It’s Future – Interviewing Jon Webb
After the announcement yesterday we sat down to talk with Jon Webb about the past, present and indeed future of SmogCon as it changes it face to become Lock & Load Europe.
It's quite the story and it's easy to see where the passion for such a massive project comes from. We hope you'll consider coming next year to see how it's grown!
Looks to be a great event.
One man and his dream.
A real credit to Jon for pursuing his passions and bringing people together, the future looks bright
Stand up and give this man a round of applause! Well done!
I’ve spoken to Jon at the last two smogcons and he is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. He’s a credit to the community and i’m looking forward to lock and load Europe 2018!
Growing a convention is very to do well.
It’s a great credit to the man how busy that place is
What a decent bloke. It is men like this that makes things happen. I wish him every success in the future (I am sure the hobby lounge will be a great innovation) I will have to get to this, this is a good team. Great interview Justin.
*and Justin is proud of his jacket, bless
Haahaa! It was a surprise I dropped off on Friday night….I would expect to see it a lot in future 😉
@cosydice I will be surprised if he ever takes it off 😉
Jon has done an amazing job & hopefully will continue under the PP banner.
Listening to him (as another painter) as someone who has never played any warmahordes games I want to go to the 2018 event just to spend the weekend painting with like minded people.
Well done that man, inspiring stuff.
Well done Jon for all the hard work over the years and getting PP on board… I remember you planning for smog con at firestorm but at to time I did not okay warmachine.
Its been great to see it grow and I know a lot of people have enjoyed it.
Great guy with a great idea. Good Job!
I’ll be getting my 2018 tickets on the day of release. I did find that having the masters and the arena in the same room meant the background noise built up inside your skull a little too much, especially with the PA system there. I agree that having all the arena tables in the same room is essential, but perhaps next year the formal tournaments could get their own room? Also, the classes need their own rooms separate from the board games, as the gamers were drowning Dallas out at times.
I quite liked having the tournaments and Iron Arena in the same room, but agree about the seminars. It was a bit frustrating to have gamers loudly shouting at the other end of the room during the New Faction Hangout and it would be harsh to tell them to be quiet, so a separate room for seminars would be great. I will definitely be going again in 2018.
Nice interview.
Credit to Jon, Jason and all the organizing/volunteering crew there! I’ll be at LnL Europe next year hopefully to say thank you in person!
Wouldn’t mind getting Andy Welton over either, his stuff’s great and his podcast is semi-brilliant 😀
It must be sad that his personal con is over, but it’s gotta be a good feeling to have your con picked up by the company and turned into one of their official ones.
awesome new so next year hope be theree playing some games
It is nice to see the history and he seems like a great guy who pursued this excellent idea and hopefully it will continue in the future at Lock & Load EU 2018. I must say a big thank you to Jon for doing such a brilliant job.
Yeah, Justin, L&L EU would be something a bit different from L&L Europe, to the extent it would need to find a different country to host it in a few years 😉
A thoroughly enjoyable conversation on the logistics and sheer effort (and the mental damage that goes with it) to put a con on. Great interview and all the best of luck with future events!
