Ryan headed over to talk with Shadowborne Games about their awesome legacy miniatures game called Oathsworn: Into The Deepwood. You might remember we did some awesome interviews with them over the last few weeks about it!

We have a chat about the game, their ideas for it and where they’re going with it next.

Those minis look really good, but the card combat system sounds really really interesting, has me more intrigued than the minis and normally it’s the other way round.

So which Oathsworn is this?. The osprey game, the plastic minis or the badger game?

Was just about to comment asking isn’t there already something called Oathsworn. And aren’t the mini Oathmark, or am I thinking of something else? ?

Oathsworn Miniatures are the company run by Michael and Jo Lovejoy, they have a range of dwarfs, sensible shoe ladies and Burrows and Badgers amongst other things. Oathmark is the Osprey game coming out at the end of the year, the miniatures for this are from Northstar and game written by Joseph Mccullough (he of Frostgrave fame). This Oathsworn game has just confused me – personally it seems all hype and no trousers at the moment.

So much hype for this one! I’m keeping a close eye on it.

Love the giant rat. Looks like an interesting game. The card mechanic sounds brilliant!

I like the combat..but man I’d have a lot of mould lines and painting to do.
But the battleflow sounds great.

Really interesting looking game. The push your luck fighting mechanics is brilliant and the card cycling is very clever.

Love the map – French cartographers and maze makers on the team – and the reveal that Ryan designs mazes too – all fascinating stuff, more so than the models, combat dice and cards, funnily enough.

Not another fantasy adventure game with minis!
Or so I thought until I heard about the twist on the mechanics they’re using. Th option to switch from cards to dice is very interesting.
Looking forward to knowing more…

Initially the anthropomorphic heroes put me off of this (I’m really not a fan) but the game itself is drawing me back in, the sheer scale and variety of it is really compelling. If it has a solo mode I’ll be all in.

the combat system felt overly complicated and messy. I wish designers would stop trying recreate actual combat on the tabletop because they end up with messy complicated rules that are generally token heavy. I have a feeling that this game will be all hype and not very user friendly.
