Setting Up & Tactics For The German Afrika Korps

Justin talks with Michael about some of the tactics he is going to be able to get stuck into when he sets up his German forces tomorrow for Flames Of War 4th Edition.

As well as some help with deployment he learns about the kind of ways he could tackle the opposing British force which is going to be run by John.

88’s in the desert are killer. All that open ground creates carnage for the brits.

Hold the phone: the Panzer IV’s shown are all the L43 version which could fire HE rounds and had a formidable AT capability, far better than even the L60 equipped Panzer III. Are you treating these 3 as Panzer IV F1 or earlier for the purposes of the game as they had the L24 75mm gun for the infantry support role?

Thats not how you deploy for your first learning game. You charge down the middle and die horribly. Thats how you deploy on your third game.

Good catch on the Pz IVs. Looking forward to getting the rules so I don’t have to sit and scratch my head during the videos

88’s mm reasonable, the other artillery a lost cause, the spaced out stretched table length tanks not bad, obviously considering the brit’s deployment, looks a little to defensive, still wait and see.

Seems a little strange to have the artillery in the woods still being able to fire and not be seen. Maybe something with the new rules?

He hasn’t covered his right flank too well.

The battlefield in the box terrain is great. Right out of the box and ready to go. Even if you want to hobby it up a bit like the guys did, it doesn’t take long. I have some swamps, tank traps from them.

Target #1 will be the 88’s!

Indeed, would expect to lay some alternative , perpendicular lines of fire with something else (maybe some of the PzIIIs) as covering defence.

Good quick deployment tutorial. Can we deploy artillery completely hidden in the woods in 4th Ed? Nice kill zones for the 88s.

Not sure I would group my units as he has done.

Is the mission Free for All? Whats with one side fully setting up in what looks like a fair fight? The Brit now has a huge advantage fully setting up 2nd, which it looks like they have thrown away by also hiding.
The German left is ready to be run over by ignoring the 88’s as they would have either blocked line of sight or out of range.
