Setting Up & Tactics For The British Desert Rats

John talks with Igor about how he should go about setting up and using his new army he has built for Flames Of War 4th Edition.

We'll be going into more detail tomorrow but this is a little introduction to the tactics of the British on the battlefield.

imteresting but very limited tactics, i accept that this is a first/game or tutorial for those learning, I just hope all the brit players do not become overly defensive in play.

That’s a lot of armour, I’d be a little worried about having no fast tanks to back up the artillery’s flank.

The lack of infantry on the table is a bit of an annoyance to be frank. I know this is a boot camp but infantry played a major role in the desert as elsewhere. Those 17 pounders might not be quite so comfortable if German mg of mortar teams were able to sneak into range, though of course they would (should) have infantry support of their own.

The lack of infantry is a bit sad, but otherwise this looks good.

Without specific objectives or Attacker/Defender roles or even first turn rolls I guess it’s a sensible approach in relatively open/ flat terrain.

I reckon the Brit’s are in need of recon Honeys, and the two sides are going to find the static artillery a considerable magnet for trouble, especially when listening to Phils brief earlier on the changes in tanks and artillery abilities movement etc.

With no infantry to dig in, do you think the anti tank guns and artillery will be the key, or will the mobile tank units be the key to winning these games?

Interesting for sure. Can’t wait to see how it plays out.

Both sides setting up defensively. Interesting.

I agree that it would be nice to see a little bit of infantry on the table as well.

Sad about the lack of infantry, but the tanks are cool.

I agree. Would love to some infantry added in to these games.

The Brits have the edge in terms of AT-Gun with the 17pdr and the 75mm on the Grant/Lee. Justin will have to be careful how he manoeuvres if he wishes to take this one.
