John’s Painting Tutorial – First Steps Done

We're back with John for a moment to talk with him about the first stages of airbrushing his Battleship. Well, Warren's Battleship!

We also hear about some of the tips you can use if things start to go a bit iffy.

Will red paint make the ship go fasta? 😉

I’d houserule it like that. Maybe an equal increase to the ship signature?

Good advice.

I have to admit that I am not keen on this schema at all – it looks great on a classic T65 X-Wing but I prefer the grim military industrial look that the studio UCM have gone for.

Warzan kept saying (quite rightly) that he grew up with sci-fi having a certainn style blake 7, bladerunner etc and sci fi was grey in his day and that how he likes it. which is fair enough really.

I’d have to re-prime it so many times it would just look like a big blob

I might have to try this zenith airbrushing, as I suspect it could help with my idea for a countershading camo scheme.

I’m surprised how good it looks just with the zenith over a basecoat. I have a really cheap and nasty airbrush i may need to dig out again

This is similar to how I painted my Terrans for Firestorm – it gives it a really nice finish a sort of white without the washout that normally accompanies white. the red grey white combo has a very Rebel Alliance fee to it – which is what I was aiming for when I did mine….

So how do you thin down the regular paints to use in an airbrush?
