Gaming Begins In Earnest

We get stuck into some more gaming this evening as the Boot Campers are really getting to grips with some new rules and working together on tactics and tips for their games.

It seems like folks are starting to learn more about how it all works and the fluid nature of the game is coming to life.

The best way to learn a game.

I really like how the moons turned out … but as I look at them it feels like the polystyrene balls shouldn’t have been used as halves but instead should have been put together and made as a whole unit with some kind of a stand underneath. Then ships could have flown around and between the moon and planet freely. But even as is, they are a really cool touch for the map.

I’m a little surprised how many players managed to get some paint on their ships at this boot camp. It makes the photos that much better and actually kinda makes it easier to see whats going on. Especially when they get stuck in.

It especially helps against the temperate mats, which for me at least, have been making the ships harder to see.

Yeah. Are we seeing something that’s pretty quick to get to a tabletop standard? Something that won’t take (me) most of a year?

I was sad to leave my fleet unpainted it felt incomplete to me but I really want to airbrush them and have a really clean paint job

I have ideas for moons but the thought occurred to me: what if one side or the other has weapons/sensors on that moon? It could become the focus for the battle. Something for Dave and Hawk to consider in expansions AND it would be more interesting if the moon moved at the same time as Warren suggested – just to make life for the Admirals even more interesting

Bet many of us are wishing we were there. Really would be cool to see a larger community based interaction, so we could host our own parallel bootcamps. Maybe run a couple skypes or google+’s in parallel. Or just releasing the scenarios so we could play them in parallel to you guys.

Looks like it gets to be chaotic with all the rules and ships and bases and a moon and ground targets all in play. Ton of complexity to get into and have fun with.

Damnit! I have too much painting to do and too many games to play and not enough opportunity to do it all. This is screaming at me to get on the table now.

I only met a few people that can read the rules and instantly get the hang of playing. *I* certainly have to play a few times to get the hang of most any game I am just learning.
