Games Workshop Is Here And Talking Age Of Sigmar.

We went to the beautiful Games Workshop Age of Sigmar stand to see if we could get them to do an interview. They were very polite and happy to talk to us, however they had instructions from GW not to do interviews, but they were very happy to talk to us about Age of Sigmar. So we shut off the cameras and had a very nice chat with wonderful lady from the UK (see they are here). We talked all about the Age of Sigmar world and terrain. She was so enthused about Age of Sigmar that it was infectious. The miniatures looked smashing all painted up.

If she came across in the manner you describe, and I’m sure she did, why wouldn’t they want that enthusiasm displayed to the widest possible audience? I wonder if they think it makes them look small-time, or maybe they fear losing control of the message.

Probably both, they don’t want to show that they “had to” attend to a non-GW event and compete against other companies that got bigger booths or something like that. Also they fear the comment section. So sad they didn’t want to go the extra mile and be on a video, at least transcript of the chat would be nice, because us on the other end got nothing… Compared with Ronnie that always throw at us tons of crazy good news, they do the contrary and that way they don’t get any feedback… If GW keeps fearing troll comments they won’t… Read more »

Baby Steps Ben. Actually being at a Convention is, quite frankly huge from Games Workshop. Wonder if they will be at Salute next year.

It’s surely direction to right way. After all it really helps when you are enthused about your product and you show it to people. That’s what other companies have been doing and it has worked. Least I have been more exited about new games when I have heard people involved talking about them here in BoW. It’s major reason why I got into WMH, Infinity and KoW.

I think its a good thing to see GW back at wargames shows again, its something they used to do many years ago. Also, they can see what they have to compete with as there are some very good and well established models, rules and board games out there.

Perhaps they have turned a circle and are trying to fit back into the mainstream of our hobby, who knows only time will tell (one small step at a time).

They were at GenCon last year.

I know they were, but as I said one small step at a time. At least now they are speaking to people directly at this show and maybe this is the start of them doing more. Let’s hope they get invited to Salute next year as well as forge world 🙂

Doing an interview or two would allow them to speak to more than… the person in front of them 😉

Thought it was just Forge World? It’s a weird thing with GW that they generally don’t attend as GW but do send a FW delegation.

It was a proper GW stand there last year.

I’m the same @mecha82 when I see people enthusing about their games it makes me think I don’t want to miss out on the fun. I will give AoS a try sometime, until I do I won’t comment on the game but nothing I have seen or heard so far has helped draw me in.
If they won’t talk to me I sure ain’t gonna listen.

I bought the AOS boxset on release (from an independent with their discount it was about £55, with 47 minis in it, no brainer just for painting). The Chaos models are by far the best they gave ever done, the only one I am not sure of is the big guy, but that is just personal preference. The sigmarites are well sculpted, but like Lloyd I think they are a bit too samey for my tastes. The game though, I’m not a fan so far. Everything largely ends up in a dice off scrum in the middle of the table.… Read more »

Instructed not to do interviews? So much for the talk to the community…

GW being part of Gen Con is a huge step forward but I think then doing this one step at a time is fair. If this has gone well for them I’m sure that the next step would be external interviews

If this the the pace GW will return to “the public sphere” with then they will be left behind by everyone else by the time they “talk” to their fans. They’ve attended Gencon two consecutive years now. So perhaps they will dare to do interviews next year? Please, that’s just amateurish. A company at GenCon who are too afraid to do an interview…just the silly thought makes me laugh while I write this.

By this logic they have already been left behind. Which is clearly not true as they are the most heavily talked about miniatures company out there. What other company do you know that every little squeak of rumor is debated so much? At some level they don’t need to do interviews to promote their products. Now having said that and given their history it makes sense to me that they are not doing interviews. I think GW should continue to not do interviews at events as they will want to control the message. I can see them in the not… Read more »

I unfortunately have to agree with you @zeker1966 as keeping the message controlled within the company’s hands is best for a company as big as them. Almost every big company has PR staff that sends out official info to the public. Having a booth person (no offence intended to them) do interviews could give the wrong info about a product or service or worse in the company’s view, release details of things before intended. So I see no reason from GW’s perspective to allow low ranking staff or volunteers to speak on behalf of the company. That being said, they… Read more »

Asmodee allowed a low level employee to be interviewed by Dawn and by annual revenue they are a bigger company than GW.
