Bolt Action Boot Camp: Saturday
D-Day Campaign: Battle for Pegasus Bridge Round 3
It all kicks off in round 3. The British paras move further up either side of the bridge, only to be spotted by the Germans lying in wait in the bridge's gantry, who go on to kill two of them.
Revealed by their muzzle flash, the second unit of paras return fire on the Germans and also kill two.
A German sniper team which had taken up position by the control room takes this opportunity to fire on the Brits making their way up the left side of the bridge. It gives them a pin marker, but unfortunately doesn't score a kill and is consequently revealed by its muzzle flash.
The British spot the sniper and take a shot with their 2" mortar. With a superb bit of shooting, they manage to drop 3 hits on the sniper team, killing the sniper's buddy, but not the sniper himself.
The British command run onto the bridge to support the beleaguered infantry on the left side, only for the paras on the right to start taking fire from the other unit of German riflemen, who manage to take down two men, including the squad's NCO.
As the armies advance on Pegasus Bridge, things are starting to get bloody. Be sure to check out the live blog tomorrow for round 4 and see whether the Germans can defend the bridge or can the British Airborne secure their vital objective.
thinking we should be afraid to look :p
Better the Germans run now! Now i’ve got to sit wondering all night.
Will be there to check the outcome tomorrow.
The British are going to need some more good mortar shots if they are to take the Germans off their advantageous positions. I can still see the Germans winning this.
I think you might be right their. I always find battles like this hard because both players know the historical outcome and can plan accordingly. It’s one of the reasons Waterloo is such a tense game to get through.
*there
Go paras, go.
Good to see someone put their 2p’s worth in ☺
Awesome pics of the action! You guys get right down into it!
killing the snipers buddy but not the sniper himself? sounds like a intro for a movie starring Mark Wahlberg!
Yeah I was hoping to be a bit more effective but still dropping a mortar in the dark on my first shot with it and killing the buddy was kinda impressive i thought.
…release to dvd £0.99 from Landfil Productions.
to be continued NOOooooo.
Cliff hanger!
Cant wait for tomorrows upcoming rounds here. Thank you.
Such a sweet table…
The bridge looks really nice. Got to admire the work that went into that table.
I think you guys definitely need to a live game of this table at some point!
Totally – and a ‘how to make’. Don’t make us come down there…
A very intense game. Excellent reports. Oh how I wish I could travel. I’d be there in an instant. Love the boot camps. Keep ’em coming guys.
Morning… nearly time to resume the glorious fight by the brave Para’s for this bridge… i have a cunning plan…but i aint sharing it here… careless talk costs lives etc
Some good solid air support is the way to go
On another point how is the nasty gluing together going?
all my minis were metal…lol
The best way
@commodorerob – I just wanted to say thanks again to you and @wendren for “contributing” this game to our WWDDC project. At present we have 12 games going on in 4 countries (UK, Ireland, US, and Belgium), and your Pegasus Bridge game makes for an epic addition! Oh, and please don’t take it the wrong way that I’m hoping the Germans win your game. See, I’m playing the Germans vs. the Canadian 3rd infantry at Juno Beach, and I’m hoping that the bridge remains in German hands so the 21st Panzer will have an easier time reinforcing my German comrades… Read more »
Can’t wait to rad how this ons ends.
Is it as cunning as a fox, on national cunning day? Just hope it isn’t standard para “we’re harder than everyone else, so let’s run up there and nut someone!” From the pics I’ve seen so far suppression seems to be the key to give time to wipe out the ones on the gantry. Good luck, I hope the dice gods are kind to you and even though I play SS I don’t think I’d like to see history repeat itself. I mean, what would lord lovat’s bagpiper do if they strolled up to the bridge and it was full… Read more »

Loving the live blogs as usual, but this page won’t load on my ipad. Just me? The rest of the site seems fine…
It’s a good thing they are playing this with night fighting though.
Great coverage
Another exceelent battle. Cliff hanger for next round tommorow.
Will be exciting to follow.
