Oh man! I love the grassy fields. Also the table length.
I’d want to play on that to see it evolve from small units at a random encounter and escalate to a full-on knockdown drag out army battle.
Well Done to the gentlemen running the game and who organized it!
@templar007 – Marvin and Jamie were beyond awesome. Not only game masters but historians and “entertainers,” engaging all the players, encouraging and consoling after bad rolls, giving breaks, striving at every turn to ensure everyone had the best possible experience.
Nice did they blow the bugle for the cavalry charge!
Infantry charges, yes. 🙂 No real cavalry units at First Freeman’s Farm.
It Looks fine. Is it also a good ruleset?
Absolutely, for this part of Black Powder. Call it “Impolite Linear” or “Back Woods Black Powder.” Not sure how week it would work for Austerlitz or Waterloo but would be perfect for campaigns like the Peninsula or earlier to the French and Indian War.
Had a game set in this war today. Didnt go too well for the rebels in mine. I’ve been enjoying my journey through the war of independence/revolution haha
Bwahaha! Just a personal, preference, obviously. I have tons of books by accredited military historians that call it either one. Although I do acknowledge that most people OUTSIDE the US call it the AWI.
I like that horn!! Beautiful figures!!
Yep, he would play that horn at the “Reveal Orders” phase and also if anyone declared a charge, 😀
I heard that horn during one of my games and wondered what it was. Thanks for clearing that up.
Yep, that was our game making all that noise. 😀
Really awesome looking board!
Definitely. The heavy, metal-based 28mm figures would “sink” down into the teddy-bear fur grass, so you’d get low angle camera shots where the men were really “line-ahead” walking knee-high through grass.
Thank you for the kind words, Jim. We are glad you enjoyed the rules and the scenario. The rule set has been a labor of love and we wanted to take our time with it to ensure its playability along and it’s period feel. For those of you interested, the rules will be available by the coming spring.
Awesome, @marvin – definitely looking forward to it! When it’s ready let me know and I’ll try to get it featured somehow here on the site. 😀
Looks awesome. Great minis and a beautiful table.
The interaction with Marvin and Jamie was great too, I think they were among the best for really pulling their players into the action and keeping everyone engaged and entertained.
