Dropfleet Commander Boot Camp – Saturday
Catching Up With Michael - First Game Thoughts (PHR)
We see if Michael's tactics have managed to carry over into the first day of gaming and his initial match-up against Rob's Scourge.
Does running away count as a tactical choice?
PHR seems to be all about getting stuck in, close action. The way each faction has a different playstyle is cool
Always go for the underdog
Will be interesting to see how tactics develop over time in Dropfleet.
How can you forget the bombers Lol
they did feck all, of course nothing to do with my crappy dice rolls. could only launch 2 at a time. Rob could launch 5 in the big game we did late, 5!!!
It will be interesting to see how much damage the PHR ships do in return when the weapons-free barrage is resolved. And the bombers put the boot in.
Having seen a pair of PHR Europa’s obliterate a squadron of four Shaltari frigates I can only say, broadsides are awesome!
Being equipped with broadside doesn’t mean that you have to rush in the middle of the enemy fleet, quite the contrary.
And certainly not against a scourge.
haha yes, learned that that hard way ;), did work out quite well in a later game, but that was against UCM
Good to see you guys have fun!
Note to self: Big ships are cool, but do not forget the bombers.
Yep its almost about using them as ships of the line.
love to see this at 3-4 player level
I always felt that PHR’s close action was really pretty pants. PHR to me are all about the ground war and launch assets.
To be honest, that kinda makes me sad that their weapons feel so poor unless it’s very specific circumstances.
Most of their layouts are for forcing those “specific circumstances”. In which, they start to work extremely well. A single well-placed Theseus wiping out the whole enemy frigate section is priceless, for example.
That space station is fantastic.
I guess PHR is one of those factions that need more than others the options outside the box!^^
i mean… if you get that nasty battleship with the front weapon
a couple of torpedoes.. then the tactic could be to run forward with the close actions while at range you pepper them down and the torpedoes hopefully panic the opponent!^^
no guts no glory get at em………
PHR the faction i use in dropzone see their core mechanic still is heavy armour … their ships loadout remind me of imperial fleets in Games workshop gothic with side firing weapons arc and a limited forward arc weapons
Thats the analogue I had for them – other people seem to think UCM is the equivilent but you just have to look at the broadside & armour loadouts and I think the PHR definitely fit that bill more…. that said they aren’t as versatile in DFC as IN are in BFG…. well from what I’ve seen so far anyway – I haven’t actually read the rules 😛
good to hear you have fun
Nicely painted scourge
Come on PHR! Unleash your mighty power upon the enemy!
Everyone seems to go weapons free. Anyone going silent running, sneaky like? What about the orbital levels. No one has talked about that.
I don’t think getting up close and personal against the Scourge is a good idea. I think the PHR are tricky to work with as you want to make use of their broadsides and good armor, but that naturally makes you think rush to the middle of the table and open up. Your opponent knowing that is going to have an easier time leading the PHR into a trap though.
As someone with 4+ scourge starters yet to assemble its good to hear they are a problem
Launching bombers and fighters seems like some of the most fun to me.
Fun interview to watch .
These videos are gonna cost me all my xmas money.
