BattleTech … BattleTech … BattleTech … BattleTech … BattleTech …

Interesting to hear about Shattered Fortress moving the time line moving forward again. I guess this after “Gray Day” when the Hyperpulse Network went down all across the Inner Sphere?

It is a considerably piece of time after that. The timeline has been moving forwards for a while now.

Um … really @nosebiter ? Not too sure about that. Don’t get me wrong, I would be pleased to learn otherwise, but I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing. HPG network goes down in 3132. Latest canon events I’m aware of are in 3139 (Operation Homecoming) reunification of Free Worlds League by J. Marik. So that’s 7 years … not really a “considerable piece of time” in the BattleTech universe – unless we’re talking about this new Shattered Fortress material Randell mentions here, about which I admittedly don’t know anything. 😀 When I presented the 5-part article series… Read more »

Doing a little more digging (just to make sure I haven’t missed anything huge) … I’m finding the novels coming out “next” by Jennifer Brozek (YA novels, but still …) are set right in the Dark Age era, so right presumably pretty close after the HPG network goes down> From the CGL (September 2017): We know that the new novels will certainly be set during the Dark Age era, and will share a lot of the themes explored in Jennifer’s earlier BattleTech novel. If you haven’t read Nellus Academy, I’ll let Jennifer explain: “I’m thrilled to be writing in the… Read more »

I know you mostly do historic games and I read your WWII series that you post, would you even consider taking a campaign from one of the iconic BattleTech Novels and run a play through video or bang for bang report about battletech?

@turbocooler – many people have asked for more BattleTech content. I suppose I could, if one of two things happen: 1) I get a collaborator to help with some of the detailed lore on the episode in question. 2) The community cuts me a little slack when it comes to the detailed lore on the episode in question. I swear, some of these guys get into BattleTech history, politics, tech, strategy, and culture they way I do into World War II, Moderns, or American Revolution! 😀 I’m familiar with sarna.net, the 1980s/90s hex grid games (and the background as was… Read more »

> 1) I get a collaborator to help with some of the detailed lore on the episode in question. I could help in that I have almost every novel but I do not collect all the source books because I do not play and the ridiculous fidelity some do where you are rolling for balance because you stepped onto a paved area. I can also help with mechs as I have a lot and even willing to strip and repaint them to fit a campaign from a novel ala GoT style. It will give me an excuse to try some… Read more »

I won’t lie, @turbocooler – it happened a little bit even when we published that Battletech artciel series two years ago. This is part of the reason I’ve been a little apprehensive about putting out another article series on the topic, even though it’s been the most successful article series I published.

And they say historical wargaming is “inaccessible.” 🙁

But let’s definitely keep in touch, now that Kursk is finished, and once this Bolt Action Boot Camp is over, I have a feeling I’ll be ready for a nice long break into sci-fi and BattleTech. 😀

Indeed I did, @ghostbear … 🙂

I just always reset my Battletech games to 3025, to let players advance their ‘mechs with the lost Start League technology (after a while) and then end the games (often) before the fascists er clans invade and people get seduced by the power of their technology. I have to say the having the space fascist Mary Sues lose in a campaign is nice though. (I do have a policy that players can are not only the focus of the campaign but can always become the greatest heroes ever, though (usually) not become the big political leaders.)

It is amazing how much content they created for Dragonfire in one year. Well supported game. So happy to see Battletech moving forward. I still miss LAMs.

If your looking for the rules for the LAMs, they’re now in the Interstellar Operations book along with a bunch of other era specific items / rules.

Battletech! Dragonfire looks interesting. From the posts it sounds fairly easy to get into and fun to play.

I love battletech, one of my first models ever was an imp. A big bulbous not entirely intimidating thing unlike like a mad cat but I loved it. Not sure I have it anymore, might have to see if it’s still part of the current range…

I saw pictures on 4chan’s ‘traditional games’ forum of stacks of new boxed sets for Battletech. Hopefully that means they are coming out soon?
