A First Game Of FoW With Stuart & Tom

Being novices to the world of Flames Of War and having not a long time with the new Edition Tom and Stuart are getting stuck into their first proper game.

It will be interesting to see if their tactics pay off (command by democracy is always a good thing right?) and how this effects the overall battle for the weekend at El Alamein.

Flames of war has always been a great starter game, super easy to get to grips with the basics. The Campaign elements look awesome as well.

I see plastic soldier company is releasing some north afrika figures , might fit nicely with an afrika korps army

Glad to see 4th edition. I couldn’t get people to play 3rd edition because of the size of the rulebook. Having played Team Yankee I am glad for the change.

Here’s one for the attendees: could you guys do a quick survey of how many have played FOW in the earlier editions and how many play other WW2 rules or even modern warfare rules. It would be fascinating to see how those with more experience view the new version of FOW compared to everything else they have experienced, and equally, to see if there are any people for whom this is their first dip into WW2 wargaming.

My guess is that it was about 60:40, version 3 players:new to FOW.

I can’t comment on other systems, I don’t know.

I heard no complaints from anyone, everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Oriskeny (sorry if I spelt that wrong) did say that the ‘big game’ (see day 3) was his best war gaming experience, over many decades.

Nice to see new guys enjoying the game. But who wouldn’t at a Bootcamp.

That’s been our impression, is that it’s pretty similar to Team Yankee. We love TY, but I question what it means for old players who don’t.

So far everybody seems to like the new rule system, that’s good.

Can’t ask for a better first experience with FOW being part of a bootcamp!

Nice to see someone who is actually a newbie there. Some of the others sound like they already have armies at home.

always had the impression older versions of FoW were heavy and hard to get into, will definitely give v4 a go though!

FOW armies look grand on a big setup, it’s so tempting

I play Bolt Action as well. I picked it up after i started with FOW. I think as well the slimmed down rule book will make a difference for getting newer players involved

Seems like such a good time when people get to go to a bootcamp.
