Painting Tips For WWII Western Desert British
Much like we did with the Germans, we’re now looking to give you some tips on painting the British as they appear in the Western Desert.
Everyone loves these sandy soldiers and it’s a bit different from delving into the regular European theatre that we’ve been playing for years.
Very excited to see how they Sikh forces turn out. Not something I’ve ever seen in games I’ve played.
I always use Vallejo paints mainly because the colours are conveniently named for the army, such as Panzer Grey. It makes life so much easier lol, plus I really like the paint.
could you use a mix of light and strong tone, I’m figuring 2 shades could work well to show tan lines
The webbing colour may have been from blanco? Wouldn’t have immediately thought of black boots though.
looks like the brits had the good idea of keeping everything a sandy colour until john tells about this weird stuff as a waterproof scotchgard like stuff
Good painting advice as always. I might be tempted to base British desert forces Brown and drybrush the bone over that so you got nice deep shadows in the creases and recesses – drybrushing can often look “dusty” if over done but in this case that could work well soldiers covered by desert sand.
its sandy… get all the “sand …” Colors! 😀
I wonder if its easier to paint desert theme vs standard
BA minis seem to be really quick to put together and paint.
nice tips!
It sounds almost comical to think of people fighting a war in what seem little more than thick material beachwear.
Sounds like the commonwealth forces should be quick to paint. Looking forward to giving it a go.
Typical brit quarter master oh that will do no need to have something different for in the dessert
The stuff is called ‘blanco’
Horrible stuff
The commonwealth never goes anywhere without a cup of tea!
Thanks again for the painting tips.
Thanks for the scheme help guys. Not an AP man myself, but its a starting point.
great info
Hm, those seems like lighter uniforms than I’d suspect, might have to read up on this.
Thanks for this. It’s a huge help
Should be another easy and quick paint scheme to use.
Oh bugger. I painted all my late war Brits’ tea mugs white.
Nice one.
comment to win

@johnlyons so much variety in the commonwealth forces – well worth a look!
