Ian Livingstone Talks About The Resurgence of Fighting Fantasy [PRIZE]
The classic Fighting Fantasy choose-your-own-adventure stories helped form the gaming experience of many and they have seen a resurgence in recent years, with the books returning to print from Scholastic.
Legendary games designer Ian Livingstone has a chat with us about the future of the series, including new books on the horizon, and offers up a rather cool prize.

I remember reading books from Scholastic when I was a kid a scant 42 years ago. They teamed up with a living legend!
I still have some of the old books… would love to have the new book and read it with my daughter (6)
On the ‘to do’ list – it’s getting long
Wow, the flashbacks. I read those books SO MUCH when I was younger.
Still have the Sorcery books and somewhere lurks the card game that was given away with the Deathtrap Dungeon PC game.
1982… makes you feel old.
I think there’s room new titles… Justtrap Dungeon… Warren vs Mat-monster…
Ian Livingstone is such a legend in the industry and we should be grateful of his dreams to spawn so many future games and ideas in people.
I used to have a hoard of Fighting Fantasy books, including the Advanced Fighting Fantasy. I recently repurchased ‘The Snow Queen’, which i still enjoy. I think the crowning glory of Fighting Fantasy Books for me though were the ‘Sorcery’ series, which you-all may remember were a series of 4 books that you needed to memorise three letter spell names for so that you could make sure that you cast the right spell when the moment came. Don’t cheat with those. They’re for the experienced page turner.
Loved these books when I was a kid! I never read this one though. I have a confession to make – I keep my thumb in the page I just left – am I a bad person?
My experience is mostly with Choose Your Own Adventure, but I’ve long been interested in checking these out, them returning is my chance!
Loved this as a kid and Ian is brilliant. I still have mine somewhere around here. I can’t wait to see where the new books are going to take us.
i used to love these book and still do !
Wow, talk about nostalgia trips!
Love Fighting Fantasy. Good memories!
Don’t think I’ve ever played a Fighting Fantasy book, u fortunately I’m fairly sure I’m too young to have caught them the first time around (I’m of the Doctor Who Interregnum generation for reference). I do recall reading a couple of Star Wars CYOA books as a kid though; a couple were aimed at kid reader iirc, and iirc the premise was you were playing Luke Skywalker’s childhood friend or something and were tagging along during the events of the OT; don’t recall the plot of the other one but I do recall getting stuck on a loop in it… Read more »
Oh this would be so amazing for my son’s bedtime stories.
Did the ever go away?
Awsome!
I did see some of those back in day when I was kid translated into Finnish. Funny fact is that Final Fantasy video game series would had been called Fighting Fantasy if Ian Livingstone hadn’t already had taken name for his “choose you own adventure”-books.
Ah, so that’s why there’s never been anything *final* about that fantasy.
?
Great to see the fighting fantasy books come back. I might have the originals somewhere.
It’s great to see these still going. Somethings need never change.
Spent so much time with these when i was a kid.
I gifted a load of mine away when my son came along as we needed the space.
Might have to think about getting them back..
Legend!
Also, I never finished even one of the books I am quite sure.
I have some of the first run somewhere in a box. So many memories for an awkward kid who didn’t really fit in. Those books let me escape to a world of adventure, brilliant.
one of our little islands favorite sons and one of the handful of true tabletop legends.
