Tree Herders & Dread Vampires Come To Kings Of War
July 11, 2017 by brennon
Mantic Games is continuing to bring more Kings Of War miniatures to the tabletop for their upcoming summer campaign. Leading the way we have this awesome Tree Herder for the Forces Of Nature.
These mighty guardians of the forest are fantastic in style. I love the mix between classic Oldhammer designs and the look of the Ents from Lord of the Rings. They also stand at an impressive stature next to the rest of their army.
These models are massive resin kits. Whilst it's quite easy to paint Treemen it would be awesome to see some folks try out alternative ideas for these, maybe taking on different seasons of the year.
Dread Vampire
On the Evil side of the coin, we also have this new Vampire On Undead Pegasus, ready to lead a force into battle.
I really like the steed here, with its almost reptilian style, but I'm not so much of a fan of the rider. Something about the positioning feels a little off and I might have to switch out the rider. However, the actual terrifying beast is magnificent!
What do you think?

The tree thing isn’t doing it for me. Looks worse than the GW one. The face says ‘cuddle me’, not ‘fear me.’
Oh, I was about to say that the tree is likely one of my favorite Mantic minis… But then I suppose it looks to me like I would kind of expect an “ent-type” monster to look. Shows how different tastes there is in miniatures as well, I suppose. 🙂
I was thinking, that’s possibly the first Mantic figure I’d ever want to buy. I also like its Entish look, was never a fan of the last generation WFB treemen.
I don’t know that I’ve seen many trees that say “fear me.”
But it has been a lot of years, and I still haven’t seen one surpass the Ultraforge treewoman.
I like the tree chap for an Ent, not a fan of any of the generic GW ones. The vampire less so, it looks like a throw back to the early 90s and not in a good way
That’d be because, from all accounts, the sculpt isn’t entirely new. The pegasus part was released a few years back with a different vampire sculpt, but it was generally thought to be a bit small. So they hage resculpted the vamp and re-released the product; hence the wings coming right out of the mid-late 00’s for metal.
The treeman’s not for me, but opinions vary. The vampire may be rescued by a better paintjob, though not with my skills, I hasten to add.
I think the entish bloke is TREE-mendous. 😀 … and he is in resin and he is reasonably priced.
The Vampire bloke from my understanding, is the same mount which they had previously, but they have upscaled the rider as the previous model received complaints due to his lack of size (apparently this is a problem in the vampire world ….. well it makes sense 😉 )
Quite like that Tree Herder. It’s not the best one on the market but it looks like a reasonable sculpt and will probably weigh in at a much lower price than some of the higher quality ones. I could see me getting one for my D&D games should I need some kind of Ent.
The Dread Vampire on the other hand, that’s actually quite a nice looking model, I think my only issue with it is that the Vampire needs to probably lean forward a little more because of the horse’s rearing pose.
the ent and vampire night look fab.
I want the ent…looks like it would also fit in with the GW LotR/Hobbit ones
Those two are very nice.
I’m a big fan of the tree, particularly the second image where it looks a tad like it’s giving you the Rock Eye. The vampire, though, is a bit underwhelming. The pose of the vampire makes it look like he’s about to get pitched.
Nice looking tree man.
like the treeman. it is one of the few on the market that actually looks like a tree.
I love the treeman, it will fit in along with my collection of LOTR ents.
The undead Pegasus is nice, anytime I can pick up a different undead fantasy monster I do.
