The Ratmen Take Over Kings Of War With New Force List
August 9, 2015 by brennon
Sticking to their philosophy that you can play with any army you have in your collection when learning Kings Of War Mantic Games have now supplied everyone with a FREE Ratmen Force List featuring all kinds of fun things for you to get stuck into.
While they aren't an official army in the canon at the moment there's no reason why they couldn't pop up down the line with their own miniatures. Veer-Myn exist in Warpath and Deadzone so why not in Fantasy too? In the mean time get your Skaven army ready for a transfer opportunity.
Will you be giving this a try?

Thats a nice touch, I know there are a few other army lists being tested out on the facebook group, I think they are variants of other armies including ‘the herd’ (beastmen I guess) empire of dust (tomb kings) and a few others in the works.
Hopefully with this there will be less inclination to burn your army like that chap on youtube.
I really like the concept of making lists for other ranges, it gives the chance for people to break out old armies, and maybe even look at multiple miniature companies to fill your needs
Mantic also plans to start making some minis for these lists at some point in the future, so they should receive ongoing support as well 🙂
Follow the link and you’ll see the names of all the lists they’re releasing this year.
Actually, the link in the article is wrong for that.

I am so happy about this!
Ratmen will make good addition to KoW.
They’re also making historical lists to be used in KoW which is a neat idea. And Alessio is the one working on them so you know they’ll be good!
Nice to see mantic feel for all the GW players who have lost their way as there armies became obsolete lol ratkin (skaven) player reborn lol
Love this; its what will be getting me right into KoW when it comes out, I have been collecting “rat kin” for nearly 18 years now 😉
The army list is already out for the rat men, bar any ongoing tweaks (or should that be squeaks ;)).
Yup been reading and reading look out for an up and coming “blog” on this website as I get different ranges of models for this project
Ronnie mentioned this on the recent KOW kickstarter that they would start doing lists to be able to use other companies models. I’ve always used my GW figures to play KOW as I like the models better, But my son will be happy he can now use hit Ratmen army with this list.
Can’t wait for them to release the Reptilian list.
can anyone tell me examples of different companies ratmen models just to see whats out there to try???

Very detailed, awesome stuff.
I found some rats riding on the back of weasels /stoats they look so cute and great for the cav optionantic have added to the list… I’m going to add them just to be able to have the models… So pumped for this gives me a chance to get creative and explore different ranges for inspiration
Imitation is said to be one of the greatest forms of flattery. With that said GW may go after them as Skaven/ratmen are one of the few things they can trace and prove as there little creations. Unlike elves, dwarfs and many others that are public domain and to general for GW to have a case against anyone, ratmen may be the exception. I personally don’t recall outside of GW any works of art, books, myths or such that predates GW doing Skaven. I could be wrong but I have a bad feeling that may not be so.
What about The Nutcracker, lot older and has a rat king and army. And Speedy Gonzales of course 😉
Ral Partha did Ratling minis way back when.
You cen still get them here:

GW didn’t invent Ratmen…. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RatMen
Didn’t claim that there wasn’t any, just couldn’t think of any until others pointed them out. Also my comment isn’t saying what Mantic is doing is bad, just wish to protect them just in case. With that said, I can see GW still going after them. They have in the past with much flimser cases. I don’t support such actions they do, but not naive that GW has a history of S&D everyone perhaps even their own mothers.
I played Kings of War for first time 2 days before I received info e-mail with ratkin! I build elves and skaven warhammer armies and this update is a great gift to me because I really enjoyed how Kings of War played. Much better than rules overdose from warhammer.
This will save the lizard men army i was buying and planning to build before the ‘end times’ killed them all off.
Not a huge range but these are the old Grenadier ones

I think the idea stemmed from wererats, if I’m not mistaken. Those figures have been around forever. It’s a great PR move for Mantic to offer a home for people’s obsolete armies.
As for people abandoning their armies: it’s created a windfall of cheap WFB figures. AoS has been very good to me 🙂 .
There is such a thing as wererats? Man’s imagination never ceases me. There must be were-something of every animal you can think of.
In DnD there is. I think they even beat everyone to Fishmen in Spaaace! as well 😀
Around the time of 1st Ed WHFB I had a were-wolf, were-rat, were-bear, were-boar, and a were-panther. I think they were Citadel and Ral Partha.
