March 1, 2011 by beerogre
Here's the exclusive premier of a painted Mantic Orc! By the way this is a 3-up but you get a very good idea how the final minis will look.
So what do you think of them guys are you going to be buying all GW Orc's to go with the new book or are you tempted to grab some of these too?
If you're tempted here's the Pre-Order Orc Warriors Detachment £22.49

Mantic have long been my favourite model company and Orcs have forever been my favourite fantasy creatures. I had my doubts that Mantic could pull this off (I got a sneak peak a while back when I was emailing one of the employees). I wondered if their Orcs might make me lose faith in the company but… If the rest of the range follow this line, i’ll be incredibly happy. I much prefer the stand-up-and-be-brutal-but-smart approach to Orcs than the slouchy, ignorant nutters most people go for. Orcs can be far smarter than most books/games give them credit for, and… Read more »
BRING ON THE HORDE! *Raises axe than realises he’s poor and can’t have a horde…”
Even at Mantic’s low low prices???
Agreed Mantic are awesome as are their mini’s. This orc is definitely a nice sculpt and is pretty enough, but those eyeballs are a big bulbous.
@darneil, have you read Orcs by Stan Nicholls?
Can’t say I have. However, those eyes look fine to me! I actually love how well they painted them.
If you like the concept of smart orcs I’d highly reccomend it, its bloody, fast paced and can be picked up for very little money.
As far as those eyes are concerned the paintjob is awesome, they just seem to stick out bit too much for my liking, I think i was expecting a stronger more sturdy brow, otherwise its a fantastic mini. It looks powerful, intimidating and somewhat intelligent, when compared with other lines of orcs.
These are SO much better than the new savage orcs… which are too cartoony.
They look much more like World of Warcrafts Orcs rarther than GWs. I like them. As for the new Savage orcs. There are some darker schemes in white dwarf that makes them look alot better than the illuminous green they have on the webstore.
I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these guys. I do rather like them a lot. I may be going even more broke just so I can get these guys. DAMN YOU MANTIC!
The eyes look okay to me too but it’s one of those pesonal preference things. Am not so sure of the upper body mass to legs ratio as he looks like he’s going to fall over from some angles. That said it does look like he is moving and looking for trouble andwill be interesting to see a unit all painred up. One thing with the gobbo is that the comic aspect has been reserved for him and the main dude is not cartoony which is good imho Not seen any of the GW ones yet but these are good… Read more »
Looks excellent. Do you think the wee gremlin guy is the Orc version if the dwarf and undead dogs on the sprue? Between these and the archanarok spider I can see my wallet taking a pummelling soon…
I must see a different orc than most of you guys? Frankly I think it looks rediculous. The standard for mantic minis isn’t high at all, but this guy must be their worst sculpt to date. Look at the fingers which dont seem to have tips. Look at the teeth who seem to be pasted on to the model after the face was finished and the eyes look like marbles a kid put on there. I’m not a fan of the mini, at all! The new GW orcs are amazing, i’ve seen them in person and they dont look comical.… Read more »
How narrow minded of you. Perhaps opening your eyes and venturing into other types of sculpts beyond Games Workshop’s thirty years of experience may yield something in your favour. For barely a two year old company, you have to give Mantic credit for the insane speed at which their work is developing as well as the customer care and good prices.
Games Workshop should be ashamed of themselves. Yes, the miniatures are good, but the way I see it, the future of wargaming lies in some of the newer companies.
Give credit to Mantic, but if he doesn’t like the model its just personal taste isn’t it. You can’t deny GW’s products aren’t high quality, so judging them on GW’s standards is fair enough as this is what Mantic has to compete with. Hopefully Mantic will get quite popular so that GW has to match them on prices a bit.
These look fantastic. Why to go Mantic. Now please save me from GW and bring out some exquisite Lizard men.
P.S.: When do these beauties hit the shelves?
Let’s see. From first word to sculpt to release, the Dwarves took what… around 6 months? These guys I knew about around November ish. So.. perhaps April/May is a good estimate? Which may mean… another army by October/November alongside the Orcs!
(Amongst Mantic fans, we think it’ll be Ogres or Humans, but that’s just guessing.)
Looks like Mr N has done it again with this sculpt. Looking great, I was lucky enough to have a look at the three up of this a mantic orc at hammerhead a couple of weeks ago and it was superb. I think it looks like a classic depiction of what we all love about fantasy orcs, and as for the GW savage orcs, they are nice but just posed a little ‘WWE’ wrestler for me. (if you know what I mean!)
super nice modles
Ive been waiting to get a look at the Mantic sstuff before deciding either way and Im still going to wait to see the rest of mantic stuff before I part with any cash but if the rest of the range is of the same calibre I dont think the decision will be too hard. Mantic seem to be raising the bar with each new release! I think I will still look to GW for characters and more specialised units but for the rank and file boyz I think its difficult to look past Mantics offering. Keep it up!
Might be just what I need to keep me playing WarHammer 😉
Are they doing mini Orcs too? (yes I mean Goblins)
Looks fab but a bit delicate around the feet.. like he’s ballet dancing or something.
@wolflord68 – April 25th according to mantic’s website @Kees You could say orcs look stupid full stop. Giant green muscle bound humanoids…yup they sound stupid too. These orcs are someone elses interpritation of them, I must admit the eyes look odd, yet menty GW models look odd when painted up by GW yet look fine when you see them in a different paint job, Eg…I think GW’s savage orcs look daft…but in WD there was a darker scheme that made them look pretty damn awesome. The ‘teef’ on the mantic orc looks slightly odd when I looked at the model… Read more »
Hmm my comment is awating moderation as apprantly its my first on BoW…bug in the system somewhere me thinks!
Not sure I like them that much. Still, props to Mantic for competing and all that, and people above me seem to like it so cool stuff.
They look great! Can’t wait to get my own grubby orc paws on them. I’d always hoped Mantic would make some Orcs 🙂
Aaaargh, my bloody Abyssal Dwarfs ain’t here yet and they are tempting me with another army…….. dammit!!
I like them overall but may find myself scraping away at parts of the faces. Removing the goofy teeth and removing the boggle from the eyes. I’ve always liked my ork eyes small and dark red..
But then that is just me and my ways.
Mantic is really starting to lose me as a buyer. I really liked the undead releases, nearly all of them. I sorta liked the dwarfs. Don’t like the Abyssal dwarfs en sure don’t like this orc. This really doesn’t appeal to me at all. But then again I am a big fan of the cartoony style of orcs as GW does them. I might be the only person out there playing KoW with GW models instead of the other way around. I love the rules for KoW, as it allows for a more pick-up-and-play style. But the models….The quality of… Read more »
remember that this is a 3 up so things like teeth would stand out. On another point just discovered that GW has re-boxed their orc boyz at £18.00 for 10 (£36.00 for the average size unit), i think i know which way my wallet wants me to march!.
Just me who thinks it looks like he is going to drop his axe? Don´t like the “crab hand” maybe youre supposed to be able to swap weapons easier, but dont like it. Other than that I think it looks good but need to see how many different poses you get before I buy. I think Mantic is rushing their products a litte. Give us some more variations on the sprues before going to the next range.
This is my opinion but theya re ugly… sorry but i just hate them. I realy liek the Orc sculpts from GW they just look so… Orkish. The eyes are massive and the head is mishaped in the wrong place, and it looks like an anorexic orc. This is just my opinion but i would go for GW ones.
