Mantic’s Revenant King Gets Himself A Mighty Undead Wyrm Mount
June 13, 2017 by brennon
The world of Kings Of War is gearing up for a big summer campaign soon and with that in mind Mantic Games has been showing off some of the big beasties coming your way like this Revenant King On Undead Wyrm, ready for battle...
This model is still in the work-in-progress stage but as you can see it is quite the monstrous beast with an impressive wingspan. I like the idea that they've gone for the winged serpent look over a typical dragon. Something about it feels more 'Undead' when it has been done like this.
You can also get a closer look at the model without the wings for a better look at the rider...
The model almost looks as good without the wings as it did with them. I'd also love to get that Revenant King on foot because I think the model looks great!
The real question now then is whether or not you're going to be looking to pick this up when it comes out? Those undead armies could do with something titanic like this to crush their enemies and lead the way for a new empire of death!
What do you think of the model?

Those two look really good.
would love to see it painted interested but not convinced if i like it.
I like that they’re going for something different with the wyrm/serpent monster. But for me the taper on the body is too severe. It’s incredibly fat near the head but the body doesn’t seem long enough, even it’s partly coiled pose, to handle the tapering down to a point at the very end.
Sadly I have to agree, it doesn’t look like the full model to me, it just kinda stops.
Wow. That is almost as bad as the really ugly dragons from the early days of the range. I agree with the previous comment about body proportion and pose. But to each their own. Certainly there have been worse models …
Yeah, and I know that they can produce good sculpts when they put their mind to it. The new Dungeon Saga Dragon is actually quite good. And in terms of concept this is quite good, sadly they have missed an open goal.
Thumbs down
Nice idea but badly executed in my opinion. I think the dragon thingy looks awful.
Mantic seem to have upped their game recently but this seems to be a step back for them again. They really need to sex their stuff up a bit more.
I too am confused… maybe it’s just the angles.. but it looks like it is crushing it’s own tail… and the legless pose doesn’t seem to work at those angles.. it needs to be rearing back or crashing down or slithering along… it looks (ATM, it is a work in progress) like it has been sleeping and is just now waking up and trying to start to fly away… which maybe is good for a diorama, but seems weird as a table top centerpiece IMHO… I kind of like how the left side of the face is angry and the… Read more »
Funny – I quite like this. I see the points the others are making, but I think this works better than many of their other figures. I like it.
Does it really need wings? A worm like creature swollen on necromantic power after feasting on the undead, it could burrow instead of fly to allow movement past units. I think that would fit the theme and give something a bit different instead of the usual undead dragon.
hard to say on that one, maybe painted i would have a better idea…
Hmmm…kinda wondering if the size was condensed in order to better fit on a KoW base…
Gotta say, this is… not my thing. Maybe, like others said – if its painted? Seems a bit off
I think the odd tapering of the body may just be an illusion because of the angle of the shots. Look at the wingless wyrm from the side – the body rises somewhat and what appears to be ribs are exposed, Skithyrix t.B.D style, and then the body curls around out of shot. We can’t see the back, because there are no images of it. I would suggest as such that there is more to the body and that it actually tapers more evenly than it appears here. I do like the touch of the wyrm crushing its own tail.… Read more »
Not to sound too harsh but that is one ugly-ass sculpt. For every decent sculpt from mantic, they seem to have 5 bad ones. I just don’t get it, there are like thousands of sculptors on the world but they seem to employ the cheapest of the cheap.
Ooft. I’ve got nothing nice to say about this.
Mantic has to have the worst looking models in the business, bar none. It amazes me that they still manage to run and operate a business, regardless of whether it’s successful or not.
