Mantic Preview A Hulking Abyssal Chroneas For Kings Of War
May 30, 2018 by brennon
Even though Mantic Games has been focused in on Hellboy: The Board Game for the last while they are still working away on things behind the scenes for Kings Of War. So, when this image popped up I was immediately interested to learn more about it...
The model is the new Abyssal Chroneas which has just been added to their webstore. If you were looking for a monstrous beast of fire and anger then this would be it. Here's a bit of the background on them...
"It is said that these black-skinned beasts have roamed the world since its creation, and only after the Sundering found service in the legions of the Wicked Ones. Around them, time can flow faster or more slowly than elsewhere, and their enemies are often caused to wither and die in a heartbeat as the curse of ages is placed upon them."
You can get a better look at the model over on the webstore HERE, but it has an awesome black obsidian look combined with a stream of fire bursting from its back.
Are you going to be snapping one up?

so that is what a Time Lord actually looks like.
Best figure from Mantic I have seen in a long LONG time.
thanks 🙂 I’m glad you like the sculpt 🙂
Mantic has been raising bar of they sculpts and that one is among best ones.
😀 that means a lot thanks 🙂
I think it’d look better without the head; the design of the front of the torso looks like a face and I think it’d look good with that as it’s actual face. 😉
when the face is painted black to match the rest of the body, it fits a lot better 😛 ha ha
but I’m glad you like the face on the torso 🙂 you can see a better view of it in this pic 🙂

Puts me in mind of Horrors of Tzeentch; I like to think if you take this guy down he splits into two Pink Horror. ?
you could probably paint it yellow and make it a giant Brimstone Horror 😛 ha ha
Well I prefer to think of it as
This guy -> 2 Pinks -> 4 Blues -> 8 Brimstones
or
Orange -> 2 Pinks -> 4 Blues -> 8 Yellows
So now we need an even bigger one to split into two of these guys, an even bigger bigger one to split into two of that and a minuscule one that each Brimstone splits into two of and they’d be coloured Green, Indigo and Violet respectively. And to complete the set a collossal one that splits into two indigos that’s coloured Octarine. ?
… so basically a walking volcano then 😛
thanks for the kind words everyone 🙂 this was one of the last things I sculpted for Mantic before I decided to try and make some of my own minis 🙂 was a fun mini to sculpt, especially the flames/magic 😉
It is a stunner. But you have now peaked my interest, what are you planning on doing for yourself? Will it be fantasy based or moving on to another genre?
yeah, gonna start with some fantasy heroes for different armies to start 🙂
I’d quite like to do Orks and Goblins to start with, maybe even a troll 😛
then maybe move on to Chaos, Dwarves, Elves eventually, each with army specific beasties 🙂
the idea is to start small and hopefully get better as time goes by 🙂
also I’ve got several games I’ve written rules for over the years too,
so hoping I can get to a place where I start to develop them more full time hopefully 🙂
A fantastic looking figure great for dark summoner’s or even a dark elder Avatar.
If Mantic and keep up quality sculpts like this I might look to get in to their games. Very well done.
Awesome miniature.
That’s a pretty cool model and speaking as someone who is always on lookout for reasonably priced miniatures for RPGs that is one hell of a demon/balrog model. Any chance of some Dungeon Saga rules/adventures…
I was thinking of the Balrog while I sculpted it 😛
Good old Mantic .. I am loving their recent KoW stuff .
That is very very cool, for a demon, or a Kayju…. xD
