Mantic Hints Towards Upcoming Kickstarters And Others.
November 2, 2014 by stvitusdancern
Mantic Games has dropped a few hints that they are listening to their fans and players, regarding some upcoming projects. First, they have hinted towards an upcoming Kickstarter for an expansion of Deadzone, what they are calling Deadzone 1.5.
What is nice to know is that they have been listening to input from players and backers and have decided that they will not release any new Kickstarter campaign until the original Kickstarter has been completely shipped out, so this means any new campaign will start after the holiday season. They will also introduce possibly two new factions and some additional scenery to their Battlezone modular scenery.
They have also hinted at upcoming additions (Kickstarters?) to Kings of War, which I am personally happy about, because that is what got me into Mantic products in the first place.
There is also rumblings of the Warpath reboot, which I know many of you have been asking for and Ronnie had hinted at during our sit down chat with him this past April at Adepticon.
I am very excited to see what the future brings us from Mantic.
How about you, are you looking forward to what surprises Mantic has in store for us?

I think it should be one big Kickstarter! KoW, Warpath and Deadzone! Imagine the $$$! 🙂
he he i would have to agree Blackspiral one mega Mantic kickstarter would be awesome, i’d buy that for a dollar!! 😛
This is very exciting news, hopefully they launch after Christmas when there’s some disposable income 🙂
Huh? What Christmas do you live in? There are dozens of people to buy for, shopping to be done… ah. Unless you’re about 14 and someone else is paying for it all.
Is that not why @apocryphal wants the KS to launch after Christmas? It reads to me like he’s saying he won’t have any disposable income until after then.
In other words he will have cash only after he has paid for all the brats presents at Christmas time, much like many of us.
Yes, I meant to say I will have a net worth equivalent to a vagrant during and before Christmas (actually, probably less because I owe the bank for a mortgage…) and I was hoping they will do the kickstarter after Christmas when I will have money again.
The good news is that I’m not the only one who requested this, they are holding the kickstarter in the New Year; hooray!
Ill certainly be up for more scenery! Love what they have done so far with it. Would be great to see some modular fantasy stuff too imho.
I dont think havings one massive KS would work in all honesty, as it will split people into makeing a choice between one set lr the other. But some people may be able to multipledge.
A company listening to its customers? How refreshing! And good news… more Kow stuff. That’s already a good Christmas present :-).
Nothing there really has any bearing on stuff that would interest me but if you’re reading this Mantic… then some fantasy scenery would go down a treat! 😀
I hope a warpath reboot includes a fluff reboot. Their current background is pretty boring and doesn’t really inspire me to want to buy the minis or play the game. Although I’m not going to pretend I speak for everyone here, but surely they can do better than the human faction just being called “the corporation” who are generically evil for no really discernible reason other than that they are a corporation.
Does it really make a difference to the game you play or the mini’s you buy? It’s just advertising, more or less. And if you don’t like it, make your own fluff.
It may not be important to everyone, but to me it is. I like to be inspired by the world the miniatures exist in. If the fluff doesn’t speak to me that can turn me off of a miniatures range. Mantic already has to work hard because it feels like their ranges are just reiterations of other popular miniature brands. It’s not like any other brand ignores this aspect of their range. The Warma/Hordes fluff is fairly well padded out and includes a range of interesting forces with a variety of motivations. It’s probably not worth mentioning the mountainous pile… Read more »
I agree with you that fluff is a key element. And I don’t mean to post this as an argument to your point, more of a ‘food for thought’. In Kings of War, there is some narrative, but Mantic makes it clear that they want you to shape the world as you see fit – they encourage you to create kingdoms of your own; particularly human kingdoms, where they make allowance to use any range of 28mm mini you desire. You can use feudal japanese models and create an empire, fully armored viking models for a Jarlesque feel, black powder… Read more »
I can see the appeal of making up your own faction for use in the game, maybe they should do the same for Warpath. At the moment ‘The Corporation’ rules humanity with an iron fist. There aren’t any other nations to pick from if you want to play a human faction. I guess there are the rebels, but there just isn’t much fluff at all dealing with them. The whole thing really badly needs to be fleshed out. Alternatively, they could include a unit designer in the game and let you really use whichever miniatures you liked. But then you’re… Read more »
Yeah, i’m also of the type that needs a backround I find appealing, the story and world is very important to me. I’m a fluff-junkie, I also just love reading in general – and I can get through a book in a day or two if I have the time available, i find it somewhat relaxing too. Wargaming has all sorts of people with all sorts of different needs – you have people that only care for competitive play and people that are more interested in the backround. Personally I like the diversity as it makes it more interesting to… Read more »
Have to agree, if the story doesn’t grab me, I’m turned straight off a game from start, I just don’t want a game, I want a whole hobby, the game, novels, movie(s) and even video games, a universe that you can completely immerse yourself in. Having the whole package also does allow me to ignore any shortcomings that do crop up in in one aspect of the hobby. Whereas if you are relying purely on one aspect…you have already turned some people away.
Just never occurred to me that some would consider the fluff that important. I hardly look at it. I just look at the rules and the miniatures. And if the rules don’t do justice to what I think is a great mini I change the rules to fit. I like many of Mantic’s figures, but haven’t bought into any of their games. I use their KoW orcs, ghouls, and zombies in AD&D.
It takes all types. I know a few guys at my FLGS who are more interested in a units stats than why they fight, but it certainly doesn’t cover everyone. A few of us are talking about starting a narrative campaign, but then that’s because we’re more interested in telling a story with the game than locking down that last objective for the win (not that there is anything wrong with playing that way).
You know now that i think about it, those of us interested in the narrative side of the game come from an RPG background, where as most of the guys who are playing for the competition come from Magic the Gathering. We’re by no means a statistically significant sample, but its kinda interesting that the sides have fallen that way.
Its one of the reasons 40/30k is still the biggest wargame… Its a cracking setting that few have been able to compete with, yeah, plenty of far far better games out there. But few if any match the fluff that it has.
