Kings Of War Third Edition Coming October 2019
July 1, 2019 by brennon
Mantic Games has announced that this October sees the return of Kings Of War in a new guise with Third Edition.
The world of Pannithor will be expanded upon, delving deeper into the lore and exploring army lists for fourteen different factions and some revamped rules too. It will also feature the coming of the Northern Alliance army, some massive monsters for the existing factions and also a commemorative diorama to celebrate the change.
As well as the release of Third Edition in 2019, 2020 also sees the introduction of more supplements alongside one which takes the number of playable armies up to twenty-six.
“Kings of War is the jewel in our crown and we’ve been working tirelessly to make sure this new edition exceeds expectations. For fans, it will make their favourite fantasy game even better, with improved rules for army creation, tighter, more competitive gameplay and lots more!”
This should be very interesting indeed. Kings Of War has a loyal following and it's still high up there when it comes to go-to Fantasy wargames. However, as the past year has introduced Warlords Of Erehwon, Age Of Magic and more onto the scene it will be fun to see just what they do to stand out from the crowd whilst also building on their tried and tested mechanics.
Oathmark: Battles Of The Lost Age is also around a rather sweeping corner so the market is certainly getting crowded with big name Fantasy rules.
One thing that Kings Of War has going for it is that it's proven and tested as a set of mechanics, well-loved by a large crowd. Additionally, it ties in wonderfully to their skirmish game Vanguard and the dungeon crawler, Dungeon Saga. This depth helps add a unique dimension to the game.
Will you be diving into Kings Of War Third Edition?

I know they have a couple of plastic infantry kits coming that they have funded themselves rather than using a Kickstarter, would be great support for the new edition and vice versa if they are released at the same time.
I believe that northern alliance is due to be released alongside it.
Also Abyssal Dwarfs should receive brand new plastic sprue infantry 😮
Ooooooh now me likey this announcement.?
Got dwarf and Orkney armies at this point. Who should I start for 3rd…?
Seems like only a couple of years since 2nd edition came out
2015 I believe for 2nd, so seems about right for it to be revamped.
Time flies when you’re having fun.
… and i still haven’t played a game yet! Need to soon lol
I know my Basilean army is going to get Ogre Palace squads so, very nice!
On it like a car bonnet
I like what I read.
Excellent ❤️ Happy Mantic decided to go for this option rather than another Clash of Kings supplement.
My only question is: Will BoW do a KoW 3ed Boot Camp when it release?
Now this could get me across the pond again
It has definitely got my interest.
I was thinking this was one of the more stable solid rules that won’t need new change’s.
It is intriguing to see what they’ll do with it to make it worthy of being called 3rd ed. I suspect a combination of taking the opportunity to update the core rules (rather than rulebook/Cok book/faq), repoint units (Cok books have not altered points values, only tweaked abilities or changed artefacts) and expand the fluff alongside the novels and RPG.

I will probably give this a look. When I first tried it I hated the “bounce back” after each round of combat. But I really like their world and I really want to like this game.
what’s in the starter set?
Right now? This one is Abysmal vs Nature

But there are one player starters for almost a dozen different armies. I would be surprised if all of these don’t get redesigned and repackaged for 3rd edition
