The War For Heaven Has Hit Kickstarter With Purgatory
October 10, 2016 by deltagamegirl22
The big day has finally come and the War For Heaven has been unleashed on Kickstarter in Purgatory by Underestimated Games.
It was funded in the first 24 hours, which can only mean good things for the backers and gamers. The better the project does, the more levels of creativity we can tap into from its creators - and more is, well, more!
Purgatory is a new skirmish tabletop game that can be played by two or more players. It combines a fresh, modern gaming experience alongside a range of high-quality 32mm scale miniatures for you to play with, that have been created by some of the best sculptors in Europe, and have some brilliantly written narrative to go along with them.
The two things that stand out the most for me in this game is the very unique plot - something that has really not been explored in previous games, and the fact that there are cohorts (factions, if you will) that are designed to play as cohesive groups, BUT you do not have to bring them into a game together.
They have designed this game so can literally pick the characters that appeal to you the most, and bring them into your games, whether they are from the same cohort or not.
Now keep in mind, there will be obvious bonuses for using characters from the same cohort that you will not have available to you if you don't have them on the table at the same time, but this does a great job in speaking to our preferences as gamers and hobbyists. If you like certain models, play them.
Now with this, you get to choose which characters you are bringing into a game, and there's a deckbuilding component that comes to the table as well.
Each player will construct a deck that they believe will be useful in their gameplay to the table, but here's the kicker...only one player gets to choose which of the decks is used. So there are many levels of strategy to be considered for Purgatory.
The project starts off with two cohorts - Murder Inc. and Soul Train, and you can choose to get into the game with a single cohort of your choosing, or pledge for a two player starter box. There are of course a number of additional models already that you can add to your pledge, including the stunning host angels for each cohort: St. Peter and Siren.
And as the project is moving along so well already, an alternate version of Siren has been unlocked and will be included with pledges.
As for stretch goals, I've already mentioned the alternate Siren model, but there's also extra Gifts of the Gods cards that have been unlocked, a piece of gorgeous signed art, a free Death model (who is actually Eve!) and they're already approaching the next miniature to be unlocked - Judas - and there's plenty more where that came from!
Have you been won over by what they've shown off so far?
Will you be joining the War For Heaven in Purgatory?

I’ve backed this – the main thing for me, as a fan of Death, was these guys’s realisation of Death is awesome, nearly up there with Discworld.
The models look amazing too – can’t wait for all the new projects and hobby time that this game will generate.
Now just hop an opponent appears near me 🙂
Totally with ya. I back at a 2 player level for that very reason. 🙂
Looks interesting.
I wasn’t going to back this but …
Thanks for the kind words guys 🙂 the project is coming along nicely and we hope to unlock the Halloween special in the coming days 🙂
definitely an interesting looking game from the figures I have seen.
What is it with 32mm…
This game looks really cool… might have to back it
