July 31, 2023 by brennon
Victoria Miniatures are on Kickstarter right now with an awesome range of 28mm Grimdark Rough Riders, available as both STL Files and physical miniatures. Head out onto the battlefields of the far future with some Sci-Fi cavalry.
Project Warhorse Kickstarter // Victoria Miniatures
Victoria Miniatures have been making futuristic Guardsmen and women for a long time but Rough Riders have been absent up until now. Well, this Kickstarter looks to remedy that with a whole host of different takes on the classic Rough Rider for you to use alongside your Grimdark Guardsmen.
If you're interested in getting your hands on the digital offerings from Victoria Miniatures, you'll want to have a peek at the set below. It comes with all of the bodies, arms, weapons, mounts and more that you'll need. Fire up those 3D printers and create as many of these cavalry miniatures as you like.

As well as the digital miniatures, you are also able to get your hands on physical miniatures from this Kickstarter. Not everyone has access to a 3D printer or has the inclination to use one. A lot of folks enjoy the various regiments available to the Guard in Warhammer 40,000 and this is a great way to redress the balance and move things away from being exceptionally Cadian all the time.

The miniatures here are 32mm so they should match up really well alongside offerings from other companies. Additionally, you can swap all of the different components between the sets. This means that you can make the units as described here or you could go off in a different direction and make your own regiment.

The physical miniatures are going to be crafted using SioCast using a combination of 3D Printing and plastic production. There are some great examples shown as part of the Kickstarter project and in these images here, giving you an idea of the miniatures you're going to be getting when they land.
Ven Diemen's World Devils Riders Squad // Victoria Miniatures
The different Rough Riders take cues in their design from real-world Historical armies as well as those from the far future. You've got great Tallarn-esque riders alongside those based on the likes of Cossacks and Commonwealth troops from World War I and II.

Border World Rangers Riders Squad // Victoria Miniatures
There are a lot of familiar themes throughout the different sets that folks might be eager to snap up. I could see the Victorian and Border World Rangers sets being particularly intriguing. The classic Desert Scorpions might also prove to be very popular.
All of these miniatures don't sit in isolation though. You can find all of the different Regiment miniatures over on the Victoria Miniatures webstore meaning that you can snap up this cavalry and then get yourself an appropriate army to suit them.
Will you be backing this campaign?

Fab looking rough rider’s but could fit into WWI with the right parts.
I was really excited when the GW new Rough Riders were announced but I’m glad I didn’t fall for any potential FOMO and waited for the Victoria Miniatures versions to come via this KS which I feel are far more ‘realistic’ with potential for kit-bashing and works out at better value on bulk buy/pledge than certainly the current FW resin rough riders. I think I will try to make a completely non-GW Armies on Parade now (bar the odd conversion bit)! The previous ‘halfling’ sniper unit is fantastic and that KS delivered ahead of schedule.
I am very tempted, but struggling to decide which set to choose…
These are sick!
