Sci-Fi Races Clash When Worlds Collide In The Aethersteel Kickstarter
June 9, 2015 by deltagamegirl22
"The story of Aethersteel begins with its gods known as Aeons. Each Aeon began with an identical copy of the same world where they shaped their own perfect race to prove who was superior among them. However, something went terribly wrong and waygates were opened between each of the Aeon's worlds."
Aethersteel is a 28mm miniatures AND card based game on Kickstarter right now. This project was intended to offer the strategy and feel of a miniature based game, with the flexibility of game play capable with a card game. Players will choose which faction to play in the game and construct their battle deck accordingly.
This deck will offer the potential for combos, and responses in the game to achieve their ultimate goal- establishing superiority and victory for their Aeon.
At this time, there are two factions being offered in the project - the Legion and the Teknocrats. Each Aeon created their race, focusing on the unique features of their kind. The Legion are a race of elite humans who mix early 20th century technology with ancient martial techniques. Although they might be armed only with a simple rifle, the wisest remember that every part of a legion soldier is a deadly weapon.
The Teknocrats are a race of scientifically advanced humans who have devoted their resources to unlocking the secrets of the universe. One day, they hope to unlock the secrets of the Aeons themselves.
Which Aeon would you choose to represent in Aethersteel?

Looks interesting but $174 for 18 models with each unit type being duplicate poses, its a definate no-no I’m afraid.
They look like plastic toy soldiers. Not much detail… but I do llike the little skirmish bots, but not at that price.
Somebody (undoubtedly an enthusiast) has no concept of value proposition in the already crowded market of just sci-fi mini based games.
OK – just read the campaign notes “two brothers… our love of game making… “, certainly some nice graphic design etc. and some OK minis, but nothing to enthuse over. Good luck!
Saw the game in person at Origins over the weekend and was decidedly unimpressed by the figures. Eye-catching models are the first requirement for me to consider a game.
I like the legion visually/design wise but too little variety and too little bang for my buck regretfully.
to many lookalikes with the SW robots and the 70s rocket man jump trooper guys.
Demoed this at origins then later that night plyed a full game with some friends. Very well thought out game and very fun. The Models are plain, but the game mechanics are solid, the card mechanic especially really adds to the gameplay.
The only real issue I see is the buy in compared to other kickstarters.
$150 sweet spot for 1 army.
Don’t forget that you do not need Aethersteel models to play the game. The $40 buy in for a single army ($65 for two) gives you everything you need if you would rather use your own models. The reason for the classic design is that we built the game to allow for easy proxies with players existing armies.
Thanks a ton for he feedback guys. We really appreciate it. We are still working on more models and more poses, however as you can all guess these are expensive to produce. I am curious for the groups feedback however. What would you consider a reasonable price tag? Remember that we are offering 14 metal models, and an entire card game in addition. Card games with the same number of cards kickstart for between $40 and $60 so at $100 for the army plus cards that put models at roughly $4 per model. We are anxious to get the community… Read more »
