Panda Cult Brings Shovel Knight To The Tabletop In Dungeon Duels
August 14, 2019 by brennon
Panda Cult Games are on Kickstarter right now bringing the Indie hit, Shovel Knight, to the tabletop with their one-to-four player game, Dungeon Duels.
The premise of the game is that you and your friends will be playing as different coloured Shovel Knights trying to get as much gold as possible. You do this by digging up gold mounds, defeating enemies and battling deadly bosses. The unique element of this game is that it introduces the sidescrolling gameplay from the digital game, adding new tiles into the mix as you go, revealing new enemies for you to fight and deadly traps to avoid.
Whilst the image above shows plastic miniatures you can pledge for the game without those, picking up standees instead. I have to say, this seems like a good option for me unless you're really interested in painting the models.
If you're interested in the plush version of the game you can take a peek at what you get inside here.
It's cool obviously but obviously makes it a little more of an effort to get onto the tabletop, especially if you're a perfectionist. Standees have always been fine for me in games like Dead Of Winter and Gloomhaven so I'd be very happy with the cheaper option.
The game seems like it would be a lot of fun and has a neat 'race' mentality to it where you're going to be trying to outdo your friends at the table to get the most gold. The team are also looking ahead to a stretch goal which will include the boss monsters and characters as playable options in the game too.
If you're a fan of Shovel Knight this might be a good addition to your collection!

That looks right up my street, and looking at it @brennon I don’t think you are choosing between standees or miniatures but rather that you can get the game with added miniatures and it will still have the standees.
That could well be the case. If it does come with both, that’s cool. Still – I think personally I’d still buy the option with standees. Already got enough miniatures to paint!
Great looking model’s.
