The Macrocosm Ticks & CDF Factions Added To Kickstarter
September 18, 2015 by brennon
The Macrocosm team have surprised us all with the additional of two extra core 'sets' to their Kickstarter. The Malignancy get some very alien looking Ticks and then we also have a whole new faction, the Colony Defence Force (CDF)...
The Tick Brood
If you're looking for a dangerous set of alien beasts that will be crawling around in the sewers then this could be the addition to the Malignancy that you need.
I love that they've gone forward and shown off exactly what infests the cities of Macrocosm, turning humans into the Malignant drones that they have become. The big fellow looks the best I reckon!
Defence Force
Squaring off against the Tick Brood we have the City Defence Force who are probably going to end up being the first line of defence against the oncoming Ticks as they burrow out of the ground and start infesting the city.
These models came out of nowhere but it's a welcome addition to the Kickstarter. They have been doing well with their funding level, steadily gaining more pledges as the campaign comes to an end. With just over a week left hopefully we'll see some more exciting sculpts soon.
Would you go for the CDF or a Tick Brood?

Those look rather good.
The Tick Brood used to be available through Hasslefree minis – for years…
They were indeed. Macrocosm approached us with a deal and a good idea so now they have a new and deserving home 🙂
Variants are in the works already, whereas for us thay had somewhat languished.
If they’re all part of the same game, why the different styles of bases? I can’t look past that.
Hadn’t twigged that.
I wonder if they bought the humans from someone else as the tics were from Hasslefree, as whole hazelnuts said.
In a Kickstarter update I think they said they will come on 30mm bases, but had been painted up on the ones you see now. Time being an issue they went with what they had.
Seems reasonable, not like you cant base them how you like anyway is it
Holy crap. I haven’t read through the whole Kickstarter but a lot of their concept images are blatant rip offs of old GW drawings.
Or they’re rip-offs of all the things GW blatantly ripped off, like French Sci-Fi comics, other game settings like Star Frontiers, album covers, Heavy Metal Magazine, etc, etc, etc…
Really like the old school look of the stuff ive already got, its what attracted me in the first place. Already backed but i think im going to need a Tick brood as well damnit! 🙂
Lots of win!
Old school is very cool.
Does anyone else think this idea was originally started off by a 40K player who was really “narked” that GW refused to bring back Genestealer Cults and Squats. It looks then that once funded they didn’t have enough extras to unlock so they went to Hasslefree and negotiated for their less popular Sci-Fi figures to base another race on. I think it’s awesome!!!!! but then I’m someone else that was really “narked” when GW dropped all the flavour that I used to like from 40K (ie the fringe armies they introduced, got people invested in then dropped like a ton… Read more »
Not so much ‘less popular’ as ‘no plans’. The classic oldschool look of some of our sci-fi range didn’t go with future plans and Macrocosm had a better idea for them 🙂
They’re already significantly cheaper and have better painted examples 😀
