Now You Can Be a Kami Master in Yashima Kickstarter
September 9, 2014 by deltagamegirl22
Yashima: Legend of the Kami Masters is a fast-paced combat game that combines the speed and complexity of card games with the tactical movement and terrain found in miniature games. With various styles of play, you can compete in a two-player duel, team-based combat, or a free-for-all showdown! Jeff Garcia & Greenbriar Games have this cool new game out on Kickstarter now and it's definitely one to watch.
You choose both a character and a Kami (spiritual force to harness and control with your character) to play. The characters are:
- Rosamu, the monk, uses chains to create powerful combinations of multiple attacks.
- Hikaru, the priestess, is a powerful healer who counters her foes with spiritual cleansing.
- Akiko, the fire sorceress, wields the power to burn all who stand in her way.
- Kenta, the ronin warrior, studies his enemy's weaknesses before he unleashes his fury.
The Kami include:
- The Dragon Kami builds upon its attack power and evades attacks by flying or dodging. The Dragon Kami is low in health, but it is known for its luck (high karma).
- The Tiger can use mechanics to set up the perfect combination of deck, hand, and karma pool manipulation. When in the fray of battle, it has a powerful block defense.
- The Tortoise is slow and deliberate; its low karma makes it often the last one into battle. Like a shell Tortoise's blocks are some of the best and when it strikes they are very powerful blows.
- Like the mythical beast of legend, the Phoenix Kami is brilliant, daring, and willing to risk it all for glorious success or a spectacular fiery crash.
I have to confess I am impressed with both the detail on the minis as well as the artwork for the game. It has an interesting story combined with a cool mechanic which makes this a game I need to put on my list of must haves (which keeps getting longer). I also really like that it can be played head to head or with the addition of more people, team against team.
Will you become a Kami Master?

Not much to add to what you said Dawn.
Except there should be a 2 year ban (minimum) on new stuff so folks can catch a breathe from all the awesome in the gaming world atm
I agree with you there! Let us play for a while first!
It’s even worse since this would assume you just play minis. Once you factor in board games, RPGs, card games, video games and all the other varied amusements to keep up with it just becomes a nightmare. Giving us a few years off to just play what we already have and buy the existing products that we already wants would be wonderful.
Likewise, I have too many games I’ve backed which I haven’t even opened yet. I’m an “all or nothing” sort of backer, so I have a lot of stuff. Also, I’m stationed away from my friends for work, so I have a whole year in which I don’t get to play any tabletop or board games.
“Not much to add to what you said Dawn.”
Likewise.
As my finances continue their post-GenCon recovery I’ll be looking out for this one at retail next year. Interesting to see they’re offering a money back guarantee to all pledgers if they don’t like the game.
I thought that was pretty cool too.
Card Based – Hex Field – Minature Games !?!?!
Yeah gimme more o that
Just had a look at their kickstarter page. Some rally interesting ides in there! I’m slowly moving from wargames to boardgames so I may jump in this new adventure. I like the idea of a cross-genre game!
Kickstarter preview here with prototype components but gives a good idea of the game mechanics

And a PnP that you can already download to see if the game is any of your likeness? This guy is serious, not as many other KS that tie up your money for eons before you see any benefit.
I am not backing it up yet, only the $1 pledge to see how it goes and in the meantime I will have the opportunity to test it… How many games/KS offer that?
@lparigi3: I know for sure that Titan Forge Game did the same for Armymals (which I also backed).
I’m just about to print it and try it out with some colleagues during lunch. 😉
I’m in. I only pledged the single game option for now. I’ll see how it goes and what the stretch goals look like (and If I like the gaming experience when I finally get to try it with the downloadable files) before I put any more money in.
Tony here, one if the designers of Yashima, I wanted to jump on here and let everyone know we’re excited with the growth and interest so far in the project, and if there are any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
For that price it looks really good and the mechanic is really interesting
Been really impresses how they have run the campaign so far and I think the best is yet to come.
