Get Involved With Steamforged’s Godtear On Kickstarter Now
April 9, 2018 by brennon
The Godtear Kickstarter is quite the short one from Steamforged Games, currently running on Kickstarter right now. In this game, you play as mighty champions and their followers on a tactical battlefield to earn victory points and smash your enemies into a pulp in the process.
The game has far surpassed their initial funding goal and things don't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down either. The Core Pledge for the game comes with four warbands although you'll find that additional ones can be added to the mix through the use of Add-Ons.
All of the models are going to come in preassembled PVC plastic form so there will be nothing to do but play with them if you just want to get stuck right in. However, if you're like the many hobbyists out there right now just looking for a new project I'm sure they will turn out very nicely when the paint is applied.
The Game
Godtear thrives through the use of a narrative campaign to drive the development and changes of your chosen Champion. I can see people very much getting behind a particular character and willing them on to get more powerful as the story unfolds. If you'd like to see how the game plays, there's also this neat video below...
Make sure to drop your thoughts on the gameplay of Godtear below and I'm sure that the Steamforged Games team would also like your feedback too.
Add-On Warbands
Here are just two of my favourite warbands from the mix of Add-Ons you can also throw in there. I should add that they have unlocked loads of little extras already for the core game so make sure to check that out too.
I think it's a bit of a shame that some of the more awesome looking warbands got used as Add-Ons rather than as actual warbands included within the main set for the game. For example, I would have loved to see Rangosh in there instead of Galana who I think has one of the weaker looking warbands.
Are you, or indeed have you, been tempted by this game? Let us know if you've dived in on the Kickstarter project yourself!

Those minis look rather good and game looks interesting.
I have dived in th models look the business and I can’t wait to see how far this launch gets
The figure’s look great especially the Big (monster’s?) For the game.
I don’t know why, the minis are nice and all that, but this does not appeal to me at all.
Strange.
It already hooked me in. Whether I remain in is another question. So far there’s not a huge benefit over just waiting until it hits retail and picking it up with free shipping and a bit of flgs discount.
I’d also rather have a choice of the other champions as you say Ben. If I do stay in I know I won’t be picking up champion add ons, much better to pick those up later. Kickstarter add ons are where all the additional shipping and delay trouble lies in wait lol.
Certainly KS comes with issues and time delays… (cough, Dark Souls expansion, cough) but they also aren’t shooting for a quick release here… looking at April 2019… so with the game probably being set at 12-16 champions to start (from rumors) and as long as they don’t get carried away with too many weird stretch goals, it shouldn’t be too hard to hit those time frames. As for picking champions… yeah, that’s tough but it also leads to a lot of shipping issues .. I think they are planning on releasing that 4 or 6 set of champions as the… Read more »
I like the reviews from the guys at GMG and they do a great job because they often paint the miniatures before should you a play through. The miniatures are great, but I feel that it is a twist on Mythic Battles and not sure I need a similar games. However, those miniature keep calling to me.
admit it @brennon you are just disappointed because the gnome lady is in the starter box but the dwarfs are not 😉 Jokes aside maybe they wanted to mix it up compared to the EA, in the end it comes down to taste anyway.
The two free champions you would get if you pledge during the campaign are amazing. If you pledge till today 20 o’clock GMT you will receive Halftusk for free as well and he looks amazing especially his minions. Just judging by the looks of the miniatures my favorites are Rhodri, Grimshalla and Halftusk.
I think the different champions on the kickstarter to early access is very deliberate, otherwise that would have been a major switch off for us to back. As it stands once this lands it puts me on 13 champions which is a nice pool to get started.
Very shiny!
It’s interesting seeing the feedback on the mini’s. I for one think they look rather bland save for the odd sculpt or so. I’m sure the time to jump on this is during the KS with the extra stuff coming from the stretch goals but Godtear for me just doesn’t stand out.
I’ve got a ton of plastic crack to keep me happy from mythic battles. I’m thoroughly enjoying that game, still pairing through the Pandora box and all I got was the basic early bird pledge. Not one single extra and yet I’m happy as heck with this game. Plays various player counts and everyone has lots of choices, just with the base box plus stretch goals
So yeah, I don’t see a need for this game in my collection.
Last ruleset has brought me round and playing a lot nicer now, so I am in for the base pledge. So tempted by plastic sculpts for Blackjaw and Lorsain. Shaping up to be good value with 7 champions if you catch halftusk, which is extending daily with different goals
Played v08 yesterday and it was an improvement again
So long as it avoids 0.4/0.5 territory we should be good
wait, V.8 is out? rest of us waiting till Thursday!
Watch out for the accompanying videos 🙂
So you have to buy the game to be able to order add-ons? I think I’m only interested in some of the add-ons.
Can probably pledge for a pound plus choosen addons, pop a pound on and ask the change your pledge if you can.
So turns out I’ve dropped my pledge lol, the Deepkin pre-orders are up this weekend so my cash will be headed there instead.
Lol… kind of a very different beast, though.. KS aimed @ 2019 with skirmish style, moba gaming vs a new AOS army coming out in the next 2 months =p.. lol
The money would be coming out of my account at the same time though. Had to make a call. Can get my hands on the AoS minis now. Will pick up Godtear at retail when it hits…maybe.
So, I jumped into the Pre-release Play Test for this… so of course I’m in for the KS… but I’m curious to see that they have the rules posted (for the playtesting) but they aren’t really pushing “paper dolls” and playtesting or testing it for yourself.. while I feel like Guild Ball had a lot of “proxy games”… now, those in the Playtest are helping, but I expected them to recommend more ‘try it before you buy it’ using proxies vs just showing off the models and the lore and the previous videos on gameplay. I guess it’s a bit… Read more »
I’m backing this. Believe it has potential to be as much of a hit as Guildball was.
