Heavy Gear Blitz Starter Set Kickstarter Going Great Guns!
October 29, 2014 by brennon
Dream Pod 9 have taken to Kickstarter with an awesome project to bring out the plastic miniatures starter set for Heavy Gear Blitz called War for Terra Nova. It's been up for a little while now and smashed it's total...
We'll kick things off with what you're currently getting in the boxed set which includes the miniatures and a whole load of downloads to get you started with the rules. As it stands there are a bunch of stretch goal add-ons as well which look a little something like this.
You'll want to click on these (open in a new tab if that helps too!) to take a closer look as there are some rather nice goodies for you to get as the campaign rolls on. With there still being twenty four days left on the campaign there's plenty of time for a lot more to be unlocked.
If you'd like to know more about the world of Heavy Gear then you can check out this handy little summary they developed for the game too. Heavy Gear hasn't been a game that I'm overly familiar with but I have seen some of the cartoons surrounding the universe and it's certainly a rich one to draw from.
As you can see the miniatures are looking pretty stunning and the paint jobs help too. Certainly brings the world to life and we all do love a good mech I reckon. As mentioned above the key to the campaign is getting the funding to make the plastic moulds and to not only bring to life the core set but also a lot more miniatures if they get the right support. It certainly is a joy to hear the word plastic when it comes to big models like mechs. They can be over so fiddly otherwise!
If you're interested in checking out the rules for the game a little earlier before you dive in and start pledging then they have made them available, for free, through DriveThru RPG right HERE.
Is Heavy Gear a world that you're interested in diving into?

Been looking forward to this. I have been a fan of Heavy Gear since the 90’s
Thanks BoW!
Been waiting for this article to go up! All it took was one look at the lineup of goodies to make me decide that it was worth investing in. Doesn’t hurt that it’s a great game/franchise too!
Backed within the first Wave. Funding the company’s transition to plastic is good. Getting the community to broaden and expand and include them in the new Beta rules testing is even better for all concerned, in my opinion. And the fact that this is an opportunity for others who might not have had the cash before to get North, South, Earth or Caprice models for this price is another added bonus I am glad for. 🙂
If they truly wanted this franchise to really kick off outside the US they hadnt put actual shipping costs on international backers .. lazy attitude dp9
@hatamoto, If you pledged a dollar, reading the comments and read the FAQ you would be aware they have a Pledge Calculator and are working with both Wayland Games in Great Britain and Alpha Strike in Australia to work on freight shipping for the fourth Wave of backers, so specifically European/Australian backers will not be hit with the VAT for those nations.
Thats fine, but if i have to read comments and a FAQ to be fully informed instead of being hit with “actual shipping costs” on the main page im not likely to back. Im thinking others see that first as well and are discouraged from backing. They could replace it with a link to the appropriate faq entry for example.
Thanks for feedback, we’re adding in a link.
International shipping costs vary wildly by location and by the weight being shipped. If you want a closer range of costs drop us an e-mail with your location to [email protected] and we will give a more accurate estimate. We have a lot of experience shipping overseas but rates do change and we like to be sure. Please note also the point of the kickstarter is to get those molds made, not subsidize shipping for rewards ;).
I apparently cant type tonight .. “instead of being” should read “and being”
@hatamoto, Here is a link to the specific question:

Awwww yeah. As a huge HGB fan, I’m pumped to see this hit BoW. I was in the first wave of backers, eagerly waiting to see what goodies come out of it.
I think that’s one of the better parts of the Kickstarter, since the company previewed twice with other more experienced Backers concerning their KS, and took the feedback to plan out the Stretch Goals so that folks know what’s coming to them ahead of time, rather than having people wait until the next Stretch Goal is hit and then showing them something.
But Dream Pod 9 has confirmed the existence of surprise goals being included in the next Stretch Goals concerning the Beta starter rulebook in black and white and color.
Been waiting to get into HGB for a little bit, always held back. This is the perfect opportunity. I’ve even got a couple friends interested. The KS is in a self-proclaimed “no man’s land” of stretch goals, but once it moves through the rulebook goals, it’ll probably get a lot of pledges as it adds so much more minis to the core set. Found a nice explanation of the North and South forces currently included in the core set:

Hi invisiblecalm. I have to update with new miniatures and stats in a new post on my blog for all the unlocked Stretch Goals. Thank you for sharing here though.
As for the ‘no-man’s-land’, Dream Pod 9 confirmed that the next Stretch Goals will also include a ‘surprise reward’ as well. So it might not be as barren as some might first think. 🙂
Once the ruleboks section is done we get two stretch goals of 4 minis each!
And Goal #8 reached!
Hidden Goals and surprise Stretch Goals revealed. We are now over $77,000. 🙂
Nice looking minis.
Thanks dorthonion. They are 12mm or 1/144 scale.
Happy to see they’re finally doing these in plastic!
Dang this kickstarter is just chugging away! I hope it gets up on the backbanner during it’s last week, bet we can knock out all the stretch goals and then some then…
DP9 figured out a deal with a distributor so the project is now EU friendly!
So, you may pledge a lot EU people!
Caprician models got moved up the chart and the first 4 models are now added on to the Core set. With any luck we should get the new Acco models added too.
The Acco has been unlocked and we’re On our way to 99K and the CEF heavy Battleframe.

We have now crushed the 14th stretch goal and added the Ferret to the box!
